Saving a Read Only copy after Fill & Sign hanging

Community Beginner ,
May 04, 2022 May 04, 2022

I have a PC that is unable to Fill & Sign any document using Acrobat DC Standard (latest version and build). It just hangs at the same point as shown in the image every time forever:

Capture.PNG

If I copy the same document to another machine and attempt the same thing it works fine. I have re-installed the application and tried opening the file from both the network drive it resides on and saving a hard copy to the desktop and tried filling and signing with that copy to the same effect.

It's weird that this is only happening on this one machine but wondered if anyone here has had the same issue and could perhaps shed some light on this for me?

Hi there

Hope you are doing well and sorry to hear that.

As described the application works well on other computers and not on one specific machine.  Also you have already tried removing and reinstalling the application with no success, please try to repair the installation from the help menu (Win Only) and reboot the computer once.

Also, try to reset the Acrobat preferences as described here https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-discussions/how-to-reset-acrobat-preference-settings-to-defau...

You may also try to create a new test user profile with full admin rights in Win or enable the root account in MAC and try using the application thee and check.

Regards

Amal

Hi Amal,

Thanks for this, I tried the things you mentioned to no avail unfortunately. I did discover that other users signed into the same machine could use Fill & sign just fine though, so it appears to be specific to this users Windows account.

Is there any further information regarding settings on a per Windows user account basis other than preferences that could help?

Regards

Hi there

It seems to be a specific user profile issue on Windows, there isn't much that we can do,  please try repairing the affected user profile and check if that helps. You may also try creating a new user profile and check.

Regards

Amal

Thanks fort his however after attempting this I can confirm that this also does not work on the user account. Any other ideas as to what it could be?

I have the same issue. It freezes at exactly the same point after Fill & Sign - so this issue is not just specific to you. I've tried about 5 times with the same outcome.

Hi @Anastasia26254858i2xq

Hope you are doing well and sorry for the toruble.

Would you mind sharing the version of the OS and the Acrobat DC you are using? To check the version go to Help > about Acrobat and make sure you have the application updated to the recent version 22.2.20212. Go to Help > Check for updates and reboot the computer once.

Also, go through the help pages listed below and see if that works:

https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/troubleshoot-errors-freezes-reader-windows.html

https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/troubleshoot-system-errors-freezes-mac.html

Note: steps are same for Acrobat Pro DC

If it still doesn't work, please collect the logs https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/collect-logs-crash-freeze.html and share them as described here https://helpx.adobe.com/document-cloud/help/sharing-pdfs.html

Regards

Amal

The same issue here, get stuck in Creating a read-only copy of your file when I used "Sign yourself".

After spending many hours trying to resolve this issue, I finally was able to save a read only copy by reducing the file size before signing. Once the file was smaller, the application didn't freeze and I ended up with a read only copy.

I have the same issue. I thought it was just my PC, but I recently bought a new PC, installed acrobat fresh from the cloud installer, and same problem.

This is a constant problem for me as I use fill & sign 10x a day for work. It used to work fine, but I have been doing poor workarounds for over a year. Is there any real new solution?

I have a mac laptop that seems to work fine, but the PC is newer and "fresher" in terms of install/hardware/ etc. I would think the PC would be even better suited to avoid random anomolies. This has to be a broader issue on Adobe side, right?
