Question

Saving PDF alters text boxes. Text completly dissapears when moving an element - non recoverable!

SCANNED PDF

I have paper that I needed to fill out for my 5th grader for school. I scanned the paper into a PDF using acrobat.

CREATED TEXT BOXES

I then took the PDF and for each question I created a text box and entered the information in blue text (blurred out for privacy). I then saved the file.

OPENING THE PDF SHOWS THE TEXT AT FIRST (SOME EDITABLE, SOME NOT)

Later, I then reopened the PDF and some answers I typed are there, but do not show as editable text boxes. Other sections like #4 got broken into 2 pieces (1 editable and 1 not). SEE EXAMPLE PIC 1. The non editable portions, I can't figure out how to even select it to delete or edit it.

AFTER MOVING AN ELEMENT, THE TEXT DISSAPEARS!

Then as soon as I moved an element, text that was there just dissapers to nowhere! I moved all the layers and there is nothing underneath. Some complete paragraphs go missing, some parts of paragraphs go missing, some middle of it goes missing. SEE EXAPMPLE PIC 2

THINGS I'VE TRIED

So unfortuantely, I worked for a while on multiple pages saving along the way and didn't realize this happened initially. At first, I thought the text box was shrunk and I needed to expand the box, but the text is not there.  I started the entire process all over again and the SAME issue occurs. The expected behaviour is SAVE, OPEN, all added text boxes are there and editable like I added. I used the stock "MINION PRO" font. I restarted the computer and Acrobat, but same issue.

SPECS:

I'm on Acrobat Pro 64-bit 2024.002.21005 on Windows 11 23H2 22631.4037

Does anyone know why this is happening? The computer is a custom build that is rock solid without issues for a long time.

HOW DO I FIX?:

I lost a considerable amount of time where the work was simply non recoverable. Appreciate the help resoliving this odd issue.

PDF files were never really meant to be edited in this way. If you want to add text to them use a text form field, or the commenting tool Add Text. Adding static text will always be difficult and tricky, and can sometimes cause a lot of problems with the rest of the page's objects, as you've seen.
