Scanner not recognized Acrobat DC

Dear Gentle Folks,

I've been wrestling with the "scanner not recognized" problem intensely for quite a while.

I fixed it (accidentally!) this evening. I do not know the inner workings of what I changed; I am posting this in the hope that soomeone better informed can deconstruct what I did to produce a more direct and easily executed solution.

I use a Canon TR8250 scanner to do my business documentation, it is a current device and its drivers are up to date.

Acrobat DC would not recognize it (it has done so before, but stopped and I couldn't get it to - Acrobat was ahving none of it, regardless of what I tried, and how many web search results I used.

SO this evening I solved it complete;y incidentally.

I have a very old photo scanner, and HP 4600 Scanjet. It has a very unique configuration, it's an old USB scanner, and it is the best thing I have seen for photo scanning (Do an image search on HP 4600 Scanjet to see how bizarre and wonderful this thing is. I bought it in 1994).

I had to re-install the driver for this since a Windows update (Windows 8.1) removed it from my TWAIN scanner choices for another application (Irfanview x64).

After re-installing the 4600 legacy driver (setup_basic_4600.exe) I was able to select the "WIA-hp-scanjet 4600 series" driver on the Acrobat DC scanner list. Acrobat duely scanned a photo from the 4600 with no issues.

"Well, Hmmmm.." I said to myself. What happens if I selectct the "WIA- TR8500 series _ E4EFA5CAA81C" scannner in the list (Which I'd tried maybe 100 times recently to no avail)?

Well, it worked! The native interface for the Canaon scanner (which was NOT available the previous 100 times) was now available and came up when I clicked the Scanner selector in "Create a PDF from any format" option.

In short, the scanner is working in Acrobat DC the way it is supposed to (And in the way I am bloody paying for it to do on a yearly basis.)

Dear Adobe technical boffins - please look at this and figure out why Acrobat DC is haveing this problem. I seriously considered cancelling my subscription and using a 3rd party app over this.

For the rest of us, consider downloading and installing setup_basic_4600.exe to force a solution to this, even if you don't have this scanner (there are maybe 10 of us left who do!)

Best of luck,

Doug
