screen shot & export as PDF questions

Why does the document change size when you screen shot it from a mac and or when you export it as a PDF. The size of the document drastically changes size and I'm not sure how to fix it.

Please let me know if there is a way to bring it back to a normal read-able size.

Thanks

Hi Peterson,

Welcome to resolution and screen pixels.

This has NOTHING to do with Acrobat but I'll answer it anyway because you are not the first to have this as an issue and will not be the last. It has to do with how big the image "appears" versus how big the image "is."

When something is placed on the web, it'll probably be based on an image being placed at 72 pixels per inch (ppi). But very very few screens are now actually using 72 ppi any more (the original Mac 128 screens were 72 ppi, that's where it came from to best match printers resolution.) But modern screens have significantly more pixels per inch and if you get into high resolution screens (e.g., 4K or 5K monitors), it's way beyond that older resolution.

But when you take a screenshot of an image, the ACTUAL size of that image is not as big as it's being displayed on the screen. But when you view that image on YOUR screen, it will appear smaller because that's the actual pixel size of that image.

There are two things you can do: manually increase the size of the image. But doing that is very likely to pixelated and blur the image. This may or may not be OK depending on the nature of the image and your needs as well as your expectations.

The other alternative is to digitally increase the size of the image via Photoshop or some other image enhancement program. Be aware that some of these are better than others. Photoshop is good but Topaz's GigaPixel is the best I've seen. But what it boils down to is quality desired, versus need, versus expense, versus time.
