Search keywords in embedded pdf files. How?

Community Beginner ,
Dec 21, 2023 Dec 21, 2023

Situation:

I use exported pdf files with PDF Maker. Some are portfolios as well.

If other pdf files are embedded in this pdf file, I can open these by just double clicking them. Works well!

Issue: If I search for a keyword, the pdf file dos not search the embedded pdf files.

Real example: Export of Emails to a pdf or pdf portfolio.

If an email has a pdf attachment, the generated pdf file contains all attechments emebedded. I can use them, but I can't search them.

I even found no workaround so far.  If all single files are located in a folder, the search is perfectly done searching all files in the folder. But it brings not the results in emebedded pdfs.

Target: Acrobat shall find as well the embeded pdf files in a pdf file.

How?

Hi @Markus343955405ago

Hope you are doing well and thanks for reaching out.

To speed up the search process of a lengthy PDF file, you can include an index of the words in the document. This index can be searched much faster by Acrobat than by searching the actual document. The index is included in all copies of the PDF file. Users can search through PDFs with indexes just as they would with PDFs that don't have an embedded index.

For more info. Please go through the help page https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/creating-pdf-indexes.html and see if that works.

Very interesting. I have installed the latest update this morning of Adobe Acrobat Pro. 2023.008.20421

I have less options in the advanced search. See attached picture (its the German version but the number of options is clearly recognizable reduced)

How to enabel searching attachments as well?

In my example the search does not delivers results for keywords in the attached pdf.

There is a menu option to search attachments. This one works. But I have to open such a file first. Tricky and a lot of effort if there is a large archive with numerous pdf files...

I there an option to search multiple pdf files inclusing the attachments?

I don't know who the genius was who thought it would be useful to deactivate the advanced search options by default in the Advanced Search panel but fortunately you can reverse this behavior in the Preferences:
