Question

Searching for straight quotes and apostrophes

I have just been proof-checking a PDF document with mostly “smart” (curly) quotes and apostrophes, but I noticed a couple of  'straight' apostrophes. When I did a search (in Acrobat Pro DC) I put a straight quote in the search box and to my surprise found that it located all the smart quotes/apostrophes but ignored the straight ones! The same thing happened if I copied a straight quote from the text and pasted it into the search box. Is there a way to find these (and ideally to ignore the smart ones)?

Many thanks for any suggestions!

Yes, this is possible with a script. In fact, this is one of the very first projects I took on when I started scripting for Acrobat many years ago. See: https://try67.blogspot.com/2008/11/acrobat-quotation-marks-checker.html
