I am sitting here with a brand new computer and trying to open a pdf file with microsft's version which sucks, and all of a sudden I get this Ad that says Adobe Acrobat is now free?
I know they have used that tactic before, after free it goes to "free trial",and then finally you have to pay?
I am assuming they still use the same bait and switch tactics as always?

This is an old thread. Adobe Acrobat is the name for BOTH Reader and Pro (and Standard). For example, if you have a free Creative Cloud account, the Adobe Acrobat listed is the Reader; if you have a subscription, it is the Pro version.

Adobe Acrobat Reader is free.
Adobe Acrobat Standard and Pro are not.
If you want Reader, download it directly from Adobe's site. Go to the home page and scroll down to the bottom. Be sure to turn off the unnecessary virus software options before installing if you don't want them.

Nothing has changed. Acrobat was never free. Acrobat Reader was free for 25 years (since version 2.0).
What you do need to know is that Acrobat Reader now includes lots of buttons that seek to do an "upsell" to Acrobat, but reading PDFs is much the same.
Make sure you download Reader. Do NOT download Acrobat. Do NOT give a credit card.
http://get.adobe.com/reader -- make sure to turn OFF "bonus" software on the download.
I too would like to see the advert - it still could be a scam sending you to a fake Adobe page. Take care!
