Some of my PDFs are opening with comment view open

I am not sure why, but some of my PDFs are opening with comment view open. Even if I close that pane, it opens again when I reopen the file. This is a problem with pdf's that have large numbers of comments. Is there a way to prevent this from happening? (One of my files stalls the app and I have to force quit Acrobat (DC Pro for Mac).

Edit/Preferences - Uncheck the one marked in yellow and the comments should not open when the file is opened.

Thanks. That was part of the problem. There's still something wrong with the file. It has 1309 comments and beachballs if I open the comment window. Other files have twice as many comments and do not give me that problem. But as long as I don't open the window on the troubled file, I can annotate it at will.
