System Administrator has set policies to prevent this installation

I am trying to re-install Adobe Reader DC, and every time I try to install I get the message, "The System Administrator has set policies to prevent this installation".

I am the System Administrator and I have no group policies to prevent installation.

I have tried the Adobe DC cleaner, registry settings changes and local security policy changes to allow install. All have failed.

This seems to be some setting that the Adobe installer is checking and viewing it as installation prevention.

I can install anything else that I want to, but I need to install Adobe Reader DC.

What is the setting that is preventing this installation?

Hi Jimb99134809,

As shared above, that you are the system administrator and have all the rights of the system then there shouldn't be any trouble installing the application.

You must try couple of steps suggested below-

  • Run the software setup file as an administrator and check if it helps.

     a. Right click on the setup file of the software that you are trying to install.

     b. Select “Run as administrator”.

  • Temporarily disable the antivirus software running on the computer and check if you are able to install the software.

Solution-2

If that doesn't work then you may try the installation in hidden administrator account.

You may use this link to download the application- Adobe - Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Distribution

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Akanchha

Thanks for posting this. I had did same issue, and thought I had set the local security policy right. However, there are TWO places to check:

1) Turn off Windows Installer policy setting (need to be set to Disabled)

2) Software Restriction Policies -> new policy -> All users except local administrators

Then, I had to reboot. Problem fixed
