Table of Contents Not Showing in 'Acrobat: PDF edit, convert, sign tools'

Explorer ,
Jun 01, 2023 Jun 01, 2023

Hi

I'm using 'Acrobat: PDF edit, convert, sign tools' both as a chrome extension, as well as a stand-alone.

For some reasons the table of contents icon has disappeared. I tried removing and  reinstalling, but it's still not there. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks in advance 🙂

Thanks for sharing the screenshots @coquito36

You are opening files on the web, click on what I highlighted in this screenshot

AkanchhaS_0-1686250240891.png

If this doesn't load the bookmarks, then download the file and open in the Acrobat Reader desktop app, as suggested by @try67 too.

Download freeware Reader from here https://helpx.adobe.com/reader/get-started.html

Thanks,

Akanchha

Hi @coquito36

Thanks for reporting this to us. Hope you are doing well

Can you please confirm the exact version of Acrobat installed on the machine? Open Acrobat>help>About Acrobat?

Please ensure that you have got the latest update installed:

Go to Acrobat> Help > Check for updates and reboot the computer once (you must save all the work before restarting)

To download the patch manually, more information about this release is here: Release Notes | Adobe Acrobat, Reader

If this doesn't bring it back, then, once

Let us know if it still doesn't work.

Thanks,

Akanchha

Hi Akanchha

Thanks so much for replying. I hope you're well. What I have is an extension for chrome, which I can use to read, edit and convert pdf files. The version I have is 15.1.3.48, which was updated on May 25, 2023. The table of contents used to appear in the left pane of a pdf document; but starting yesterday it no longer does. I've removed and reinstalled the extension a number of times, but there still is no table of contents.

Thanks a lot for all your help.

Be well,

Ira

@coquito36 Can you share the screenshot of your Acrobat's view at your end? It would be easier to understand which Table of content you are missing now.

I guess you are referring to Acrobat's new UI. Just Open Acrobat>View>Enable Acrobat's New View. Does it make any difference?

Once again, thanks for responding. Here are two different screenshots of the same document (my keyboard doesn't have a printscreen key, and I couldn't find another combination of keys that could printscreen, so I had to use this clumsy workaround where the 'virtual keyobard' is visible at the bottom of the image.)

1 Using another pdf viewer extension for chrome, where you can see the Table of Contents (all hyperlinkable) in the left-hand pane

2 The 'Adobe Acrobat edit, convert sign', extension for chrome, where there is no Table of Contents in the left-hand pane.

Once again, thanks for all your help.

Be well,

Ira

By TOC, are you referring to Bookmarks?

No. In many documents, there's a typical hyperlinkable Table of Contents in the left pane.

Those are called Bookmarks in the PDF-world. And if you don't see this panel in Reader it means there aren't any in this specific file.

Open the file in the Reader application itself, instead of inside the browser.
