I am labelling a construction drawing using hundreds of text call out boxes (image attached) and i have to create a text call out box and type in the number to identify different points everytime, it will be in the thousands.
but what i want to know is.....
can I use the tools in Acrobat to for example create hundreds of them numbered 1 - 300 for instance
this would save me time creating them one by one and typing in the number manually also less chance of missing numbers or duplicating numbers.
Hope this was a bit clearer

You could create a dynamic stamp with a dialog box for the editable text and auto increment numbering.

As mentioned, this can be done with a dynamic stamp, but that's limiting since the design of the stamp is always the same, and you can't place it in a dynamic location and have the arrow and connecting line move according to where you put it.
Another option is to apply the contents after the fact, once you've created all (or some) of the callouts.
You could use a custom-made script to apply a unique number as the contents of each callout, in the order you created them. That will allow you to keep using this tool, with all of its functionalities, while not having to manually enter the number each time. One click will do all of them.

Thanks for the feedback, do you have any usefule links or more details on how I go about adding a script to complete this task?

Are you looking to develop this script yourself, or have someone create it for you (probably for a fee)?

Hi,
Attached is a stamp file you must place in the Stamps folder of you Acrobat software.
Then you get 2 stamps available.
The first one with a dialog box where you can modify the text and the first index. It will apply the stamp with these indication.
The second one will apply the stamp with the same text but incrementing the index (without the dialog box).
Both text and index will be saved with your file, so no need to find the last ones indicated if you whish the same ones.
You need to add a document level script for that: this.disclosed=true;
Such as try67 indicated it, you will have to add the arrows.
If you prefer the real callout annots, you will find in my example an action wizzard which fill-in the blank callout annots.
As for the stamp, you will get a dialog box to indicate the text and the index for these annots.
