The current version of Acrobat Reader (free version) does not allow adding text to a .pdf. The "Add Text" box is missing.
Is there an app available to allow adding a line of text to a .pdf?

Acrobat is the app (you would go into Edit PDF). Tip: Acrobat Reader is free, Acrobat is paid for.

Yes, I understand that the paid version allows this.
I should have phrased the question: Is there an app that allows adding a text line to the free version?
Perhaps a browser add-on?

No, Adobe don't allow apps to add things to the free version that would be available by paying. But there is an "Add text" tool for commenting - it doesn't actually add a line, but it may be close enough.
Where do you read about the "Add text" box? Perhaps we can unravel this, since nothing was ever taken out of Reader.

The screen shot below is the old Comment toolbar and the icons numbered 7 & 8 were ways to add text to a document. I just completed the update to Reader version 2023.003.20244 which has a completely different look to it and these tools are no where to be found. Hopefully you can guide me to where it's now located.
