I use this text box feature constantly to add work order numbers to drawings. This UI update disaster was making everything difficult.
But I found the old TEXT BOX tool!
At the bottom of the vertical quick tool bar, click the 3 dots and then click CUSTOMIZE.
Expand the COMMENT section and scroll down to the ADD TEXT COMMENT icon.
Highlight it and then click the left arrow icon to add it to your quick toolbar.
Then when used, it opens up the old options to change font size, bold...
Then you can modify the box properties by clicking on the box itself.
It shouldn't have to be this hard to find!!

Press [CTRL] + [E] on a PC or (probably) [CMD] + [E] on a mac to open a tempory tool bar for text box properties. It defaults to main text box properties for changing border/fill and more. Clicking the 'more' button on the yemporary toolbar opens the regular text properties dialogue box with a few more options. At the bottom of the dialogue box is a tick box to make the current properties the default properties. When the text box is in text entry mode the temporary toolbar will change to text properties (color/font/size/bold etc.).

THANK YOU THANK YOU! I did this but for me the text box functionality only returned after I "Disable new Acrobat" which I happily did also, not realizing that was an option also.

Thank you SO much! I had actually already tried to do that, but for some reason, when I repeated my actions after reading your comment, it suddenly worked! (Originally, it allowed me to highlight the Add Text Comment option, but the arrows and save button remained grayed out. Weird; I hate this update.)
