Hello @GottaRun
I hope you're doing well, and sorry for the trouble.
Please try to remove the application using the cleaner tool (Acrobat cleaner tool) and reinstall the application using this link:
https://www.adobe.com/acrobat/acrobat-pro.html
For testing purposes: Please try to turn off the protected mode and see if that makes any difference. Go to Adobe Acrobat > Preferences > Enhanced Security > Uncheck 'Enable protected mode at startup,' turn off the protected mode and uncheck the enhanced security > Click OK and reboot the computer.
Note: Turning off the security may contain security risks; please turn on the security after testing.
Let us know how it goes.
Regards,
Krutikka

Thanks for replying. I couldn't follow the steps you outlined because it took me to uninformative confusing screens. But I did uninstall what was on my computer using specialized uninstaller software. And then reinstalled from my adobe account. So I'm good for now!

In my case, Acrobat was in the middle of an update. However, it didn't give any hint that was the case. When I tried to shutdown, a dialog appeared letting me know what was happening. Once the update completed, everything was back to normal.

Crappy user experience. You'd think they would know better after doing this stuff for 30+ years....
