Question

The new Acrobat layout

Does anyone else hate the New Acrobat layout as much I do? Not a user friendly layout in my opinion. If you don't know what I'm talking about, click on the try the new version banner on the top of Acrobat. I think it will appear top right if you haven't already clicked on it. Curious to hear your feedback.

I sooooooo hate it!!! I agree that it's not user-friendly at all. I want my old layout back, or at least give us a way to customize our toolbars & shortcuts. It's taking me longer to do my tasks because of this update.

Hi there

For information about the new Acrobat UI, please go through the help page https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/new-acrobat-experience.html and see if that works.

Regards

Amal

I read through your FAQ on the new interface.  Why should I have to rebuild tools and menus that worked in Acrobat in order to have a less useful interface?  The change does not allow for evolutionary change.  It has totally distroyed my ablity to use acrobat without wasting massive amouts of time.

There is a way to get the old UI back.  I found these instructions elsewhere.  Why Adobe could not create a preview of the new UI and ask my choice of UI before forcing this awful change on me is the question.

To disable the new experience,

  • Windows: Click the hamburger menu (   ) at the upper left corner and choose Disable new Acrobat.
  • macOS: Go to View > Disable new Acrobat

It sucks and we hate it too. I turned off "new acrobat" and found I couldn't customize the top toolbar like I could before. This is all messed up.

As an Acrobat beta tester, I've hated it from the first beta several months ago.

For my shop's work, which primarily is accessible PDFs, it's a nightmare. I STILL don't know what most of the microscopic grey icons mean.

I need to get work done, so I've turned it off on my production computer. I suggest you do, too.

To answer the question why did Adobe do this?

Because someone in marketing decided the interface had to be modernized. It appears that the person/team assigned to do the redesign 1) has no experience in actually using Acrobat in different work settings (prepress, graphic design, office docs, accessibility, etc.), 2) has no data on what users need, and 3) has little experience in UX design.

Complete failure.

You can disable it by clicking the (non-obvious) menu item called "Disable New Acrobat" under the File menu.

Can confirm that "Disable new Acrobat" is the only way out of this unusable mess.

It is very difficult to navigate and makes editing difficult.  What was the purpose of this "new" version?

Beats me. Only someone at Adobe can answer that.
