When printing a document in PDF there is an error that comes up stating "This document could not be printed" after I choose ok there is another window that populates stating "There was an error with printing the document." I have looked through different threads on the forums to resolve the problem but none of them fix it. I have tried using Print as an Image, removed Enable Enhanced Security, turned off Protected View, and removed the option to view PDF/A documents. I have also deleted 2015 and DC folders in %APPDATA%\Adobe\Acrobat. I have repaired Adobe and uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe. Other documents (Office documents) print properly so there is no issue with the connection to the printers. I have also tried printing the PDF to other printers and they do not work either.

Are you able to print other PDFs from Acrobat? If so, it's safe to assume something is wrong with your PDF. Can you obtain a new PDF? perhaps it has a corruption. Try saving it as a PDF/X-1a, that may fix it. I don't have Acrobat standard, but I think you can do this, go to Tools> Print Production> Save-as PDF/X> (settings) PDF/X-1a.
If you are still having problems with this specific PDF, try placing it into InDesign and exporting to a new PDF.

Thanks for the reply!
I have tried several PDFs and they give the same error. I am able to print excel documents with no problem.
After testing some more I was able to print the document to a different printer but that printer is not my default and would really like to print through my default so I don't have to walk far away to get a PDF every time.
I am also unable to find the PDF/X-1a option you are talking about either. I don't see the PDF/X-1a option under "Save As" either when just trying to change the format on there.

Ok, you tried a lot to isolate the problem. What is your OS? What is your printer?
When taking a standard PDF from the net (eg Adobe), can you print that?

Thank you for the reply!
It is running Windows 10 1709 and the printer is an HP Laserjet 4200n.
I have tried printing other PDFs and another person is able to print all of the PDFs that I've been unable to print. Their settings are also mirrored.

After fiddling for a couple days, I uninstalled then reinstalled Acrobat. That solved the problem. Inelegant but effective.

I have the same problem on mac...error popup says "The document could not be printed." After i click OK, the next popup says 'There were no pages selected to print.' even though i'm in an open document in Acrobat. Acrobat is locally installed on my mac. I tried to uninstall acrobat and reinstall it, but it didn't help. Any suggestions?

Same problem here. For the first time seems like I'm having software problems with Acrobat. I get "The document could not be printed." message. Doesn't happen with different software, and also happens across different printers in different locations. Ugh. What a mess. Also started having problems with the message that says I don't have the most recent software, even though the Creative Cloud package shows all software is up-to-date.

Hi @Lori348388625xnl,
Sorry for the troubled experience. Does it happen with all the PDF files or just a few?
Please ensure your copy of Adobe Acrobat is updated, to check for any pending updates, launch Acrobat > Help > Check For Updates.
Also, Help us with the Acrobat version installed on your machine: https://adobe.ly/4g0bXjd
If this issue is happening with a few files, as a workaround you may try printing the file with either Adobe Reader or using a browser. Also share the file with us so we could take a look.
