Trying to Open PDF in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 Extended

I am trying to open a PDF document using Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 Extended and getting a message the software requires a newer (subscription based) version, and my Pro 9 won't work. Adobe wants me to uninstall this software (which I paid for). I want to avoid a monthly fee to use the features Pro 9 offers. Any help most appreciated.

Is the PDF one you have created? A Pdf/A or Pdf/x-1 are standards that are backward compatible. Do you know how the Pdf was created?

Not sure. I did not create it and it’s too large to try and open online. --

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post if it helps you get responses.
