Upload File button not displaying when requesting an e-signature

I have used the javascript to add a button that allows users to upload a file (mainly PDFs and Word docs). It works fine (i.e., is labeled, clickable, allows me to search for a file, seemingly adds attachment) when I preview the form. When I request an e-signature, however, the button disappears as if it was never there. It's just a blank space. How do I get the button to display so that users can upload their files?

Correct answer Thom Parker

When a PDF is "sent for signatures" (using the tool in Acrobat), it is uploaded to the Adobe Sign server and converted to the Adobe Sign format.  This format only allows specific types of fields, such a text fields. And since the file is no longer a PDF, all the scripts and other PDF specific interactive features are removed.

Adobe sign is it's own world.

You can see the types of interactive features allowed in a Sign form and how to add them to your form here:

Thank you for your quick response! Is there a way to send/distribute the fillable PDF while keeping the scripts in place?

Yes, use something other than the Adobe Sign service to distribute the form.

The simplest option, but unstructured, is to email the form.

Another technique is to use the Adobe Form Distribution service. You'll find it in the "Prepare Form" tools in Acrobat Professional.
