Our Executive Admin has had this problem for quite some time on her in office computer, its completely impossible to fix so we gave her a brand NEW computer with 11th gen Core i5, 16GB RAM and 256 nvme SSD.  Even on the new Windows 10 21H2 computer, this error occurs.

When she tries to combine word docs (docx files) to a PDF it says "No PDF file was created because Adobe Acrobat encountered an unidentified error."

The only way to do this is in each word doc, print to "Microsoft PDF" save them all in a folder, then combine all of those PDFS in that folder into one big PDF.  She never used to have to do this extra step.

According to our software inventory system, it scanned the computer and has the following versions of software:

Adobe Acrobat DC version 22.001.20142 (Added to machines where users have Adobe DC license)

Adobe Acrobat Reader DC version 22.001.21042 (Part of our standard computer deployment)

Microsoft 365 Apps for business - en-us version 16.0.15128.20280 (this is where word comes from).

Her previous computer worked for a long time and then eventually started giving this error.  So we completely removed adobe from it, rebooted and then reinstalled it.  The issue persisted.  Being that her old computer was going on 5 years old, we replaced it for a new model that we just received in.  However even with a clean fresh load of software and a newly created Windows user profile, the problem persists.

Any ideas?

Is there any way to get official support from Adobe?  How can I open a ticket with them?

Hi All,

Sorry about the trouble caused.

Please try to update the application to the latest version and check if the issue persists.

It would be helpful if you could share the screen recording of the complete workflow that does not work.

Share the Acrobat version and OS in use.

We are looking forward to investigating this issue further.

Thanks,

Meenakshi

On a comptuer that works and another one that doesn't, Adobe and Office are reporting the same versions.

Adobe Acrobat DC 22.001.20169

Microsoft 365 Apps for business - en-us 16.0.15225.20356

Whats the best way to make a video?  I know psr.exe creates I think an HTML with screenshots in a zip file.  Keep in mind whatever you tell me has to be easy and built in to windows because I need to relay this to an end user that has little to no IT experience.

Hi, we have a very similar issue, when trying to combine multiple DOC files from either context menu or directly within Adobe Acrobat Pro 2020 with Office 365 installed on Windows 10. We get one pdf of the first document and then Acrobat hangs and never completes the merge. I've tried updating our packaged version via Check for Updates and also downloaded and installed the latest version directly from Adobe. If I role back to Office 2016 then merge documents works, there must be an issue with Acrobat and Office 365.

I'd also like to add that merging any other files works, I've tested merging PDFs and .TXT files and this successfully creates a merged PDF, only Office 365 files will not merge correctly. I have also installed Acrobat DC 64 bit and the same issue is present, cannot merge Office 365 files, can merge any other supported file types.

Dear Adobe, as a business that uses your software primarily for the purpose of combining word documents into a single pdf, please can this issue be looked at. It does not strike me as fair that we pay you all of this money for your software (which currently it is not working) and there does not appear to be an avenue to get this rectified. Very frustrating indeed. If my business made it this difficult to to offer help to it's clients, I wouldn't have a business left!

Hi @Amy27959848x8p5

Hope you are doing well and sorry to hear that

Is this an issue with a particular Word file or with all the files? Please try with a different file and check. If the file is stored on a shared network/drive please download it to your computer locally and then try again.

As you have the latest version, please try to repair the installation from the help menu (Win Only) and see if that works.

Please try to reset the Acrobat preferences as described here https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-discussions/how-to-reset-acrobat-preference-settings-to-defau...

You may also try to create a new test user profile with full admin rights in Win and try using the application there and check.

Let us know how it goes.

Regards

Amal

It is a word document from a shared network. When I download it to my PC it does work but is a long way round. This use to work fine up until a couple of weeks ago and my other colleague can still do this. Why can't I?

This literally just started occurring YESTERDAY. It was fine earlier this week. It's only when I try to combine 2 word docs. I have to create pdfs of the individual word docs first and then combine them. What is going on???

We are having the same issue.  Current version of Acrobat is 2022.003.20314.

Users have been able to combine Word and PDF documents together until this week.  Now, only PDF documents will combine.

Hi @Scott255716466dld

I have tried to reproduce the issue on my end and its working fine.  As you have the most recent application version, please try to repair the installation from the help menu (Win Only) and see if that works.

Please try to reset the Acrobat preferences as described here https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-discussions/how-to-reset-acrobat-preference-settings-to-defau...

You may also try to create a new test user profile with full admin rights in Win or enable the root account in MAC and try using the application there and check.

I have this problem too. It started about a week ago. I regularly combine files including Word files into one PDF. Normally the Word files are converted with no difficulty but now Acrobat cannot convert them. I have this problem on 3 different computers each running up-to-date versions of Acrobat Pro and Word on an up-to-date Windows 11 installation. 2 of the machines use the 32-bit version of Acrobat and one the 64-bit version but all three have the same problem. In the Combine Files window "Error During Processing (file skipped)" appears against any Word files. Other file types continue to convert OK (including rtf document files). I have tried running the Repair Installation function in Acrobat and deleting the Preferences folder within Appdata for Acrobat DC but to no avail.

To combine Word documents I now have to use Save as  Adobe PDF in Word and use the resulting PDF.

If Amal or any other Adobe employee has a solution, I would love to know it.

For all having this issue: We have determined this is a problem with Acrobat DC 64 bit on PC. The issue does not occur on Silicon Macs with the 64 bit version of Acrobat, nor does it occur on PCs running the 32bit version.

I was a little too general on my post, sorry. It seems there are number of issues performing this task. On our systems, it is as I stated, but we do not get any errors, the process just hangs on all machines having the issue. Some have pointed to a registry hack to fix, and blaming an Office update or version. But we do not have this issue on our Apple workstations. Since we do not get an actual error, please take my info for what it is worth in troubleshooting your own process.
