Sorry but either I'm not communicating properly or I'm missing something.
Are you using Apple's Preview application?

What I'm not understanding is that Preview is a separate application not related to Acrobat at all. So your statement that it wants you to update Acrobat doesn't make any sense to me.
Please humor me and open your document using Preview to open the document and then try to print from Preview. If you still get a message to update Acrobat, please take a screenshot and post that.
Thanks,
Gary, the message comes from the PDF file, not the application. This happens e.g. with PDF Portfolios or XFA (LiveCycle Designer) forms that require Adobe Acrobat/Reader of at least a certain version. Even in a non-Adobe application, it will instruct you to update your Adobe Acrobat/Reader application.
Because the problem is with barcodes, this is either a problem related to XFA forms, or extended Reader Rights - neither of which will work in Preview, hence the message.
Donald, what exactly happens when you try to print from Adobe Reader?
