What are the differences in BENEFITS between "Send for Comments via Email" and "Send for Shared Commenting"

I'm whacking my brain and really don't understand the difference.

I do understand that with "Send for Shared Commenting" the files are allegedly uploaded to a server, but what benefit is that when:

1 - my SharePoint server always shows up "empty" (useless), and

2 - "Send for Comments via Email" gives the reviewer the same ability to "Publish Comments?

Thanking someone in advance for clearing this up for me.

Shared commenting is a collaborative review--in other words, when you have multiple reviewers, they can open the file and see each other's comments. Your reviewers can essentially talk to each other and ask/answer questions within the document. When you send via email they cannot see each other's comments, they just send their own comments back to the host.

Hope that helps.
