What is the best pdf format for artwork

I'm looking for suggestions on the best pdf settings for sending artwork to a commercial print shop.

Contact your pint professional and ask them what you need to deliver.   Depending on the project, I usually send my print shop a High Print Quality CMYK that is 300 dpi or higher.

Currently the best format is PDF/X4. But still, it‘s your print shop giving you the data.

However, just for the records: if they ask for all fonts to be vectorized, then you should ask them for what reason. Some shops are opening the PDF files with Illustrator to do whatever with the file and that‘s the most common cause for scrambled prints.

I have this quite often for Asian countries (Taiwan, China to name those). And each time we comply, the file gets modified. So now we just ask them what‘s wrong with the data. In China it‘s most often that the terminology is not politically correct. We change that ourselves and go ahead...

It‘s usually best to contact the printer directly and ask them what they want.
