When Combining Multiple Word Documents, Word Crashes and Acrobat Freezes

I'm using Adobe Acrobat Pro 2017 (17.011.30080) and Microsoft Word 2016 (16.0.4266.1001) in Windows 10 Pro (version 1803, OS build 17134.48).

All of these are as up to date as possible.

When trying to combine two or more Word documents into a pdf (via right-click in Windows, or through Acrobat:Tools:Combine), no pdf is created, Word crashes, and Acrobat freezes.

I can create PDFs of multiple Word documents, and I can combine multiple PDFs, but if I attempt to combine multiple Word documents, Acrobat and Word crash.

I have uninstalled both programs, reinstalled, and the exact same problem continues. I have spent hours on chat with Adobe Customer Support, and they haven't been able to fix anything.

I'm suspicious this is a Registry issue, but that's a bit over my head. Anyone have any ideas?

Hi Dmoore,

As you have mentioned the combine pdf works fine for PDF files, have you tried combining Excel or powerpoint files or any other format such as jpeg or png?

You can also try resetting your Acrobat preferences How to reset Acrobat Preference settings to default.
