What device are you printing to? What size paper? What size is the document? Is the print size getting scaled? It’s possible that Preview is scaling the print down so that it will fit on the paper, and Acrobat is defaulting to 100% scale which may be too big for your device.

I am printing on HP 7610 , paper is A4 , the documents are PDF only, the printing screen shows at 94% size , to get a reasonable print out I need to downscale to 90% , there must be a simpler way to do this ?

Under page sizing & handling click the first option "fit". This will make sure that everything fits within the margins of you printer.

unfortunately this works only for certain A4 pdf's but not all , I will send a snaphot of the printed piece later,
the only way I avoid header cuts (in this case the logo of facebook cut of slightly on top and the first sentence ) is to us the custom scale each time to a lower percentage then the actual pdf screen is showing on the desktop
