Why do French accents display incorrectly when hovering over checkbox descriptions in fillable PDF?
I create interactive accessble PDF forms in English and French using InDesign and then exporting them out as interactive accessible PDFs using Acrobat DC. Whenever we receive french files (created in InDesign) from the translators, the interactive PDF checkboxes don't display correct syntax for accents or apostrophes. When one hovers over the checkbox to view the description, the text displays symbols or other sytax for any letters with accents. For example, in the french Indesign file, "à/d’un" displays correctly in the Checkbox button value. However, once exported out as an interactive PDF (with french languege selected), it turns into: ‹/dÕun when I hover over the check box. If I look in Acrobats's Check Box Properties>Options>Export Value, they no longer display correctly like in Indesign. This only happens when I have a series of check boxes where you may only select one and the description in the button value has any french accents or other characters that english does not have. Is this a unicode or encoding error? and How do I fix this so I don't have to manually fix this in Acrobat by repasting in the correct text into the Export Value field every time? My InDesign styles are all set to French language. I appreciate any insight you may have.
