Why does Adobe Acrobat require an internet connection when creating a pdf from a file on the same computer???

when attempting to create a pdf from a word doc or in MS WORD and exporting doc to save as a PDF I receive a message telling me conversion can't be competed w/o out being connected to internet - the message when exporting to Adobe says file cannot be exported w/o internet connection
