Question

Why is my text suddenly going invisible?

I opened acrobat to a downloaded pdf. I tried to type in it, and now the text is no longer there. I can't see it at all. Why? It's happening across all my documents, so not just one source. If I do a fill and sign one, it's fine- I can fill in stuff. But documents downloaded where I want to take notes don't show up. I've "repaired". I've updated. Still happening.

Hi there — that’s a frustrating issue. I’ve seen something similar happen when the font color or layer settings get messed up. Here are some things to try:

Check the text color / fill settings in Acrobat — maybe it’s set to white or fully transparent by mistake.

If your document has multiple layers or overlays, see if a layer is on top of your text hiding it (e.g. an image or white box).

Make sure the font is embedded and valid — a missing font can sometimes render text invisible.

Try exporting it to a new PDF or “Save As” (instead of just saving) — sometimes that resets weird rendering bugs.

Update Acrobat and try viewing it in another PDF viewer (like Reader) to see if the issue persists — if yes, the problem is in the PDF file itself rather than Acrobat.

If you can share a minimal sample file with the invisible section (without private info), I can try debugging it

 further too.

@stunning_practice5558 I wonder, if the default text color for the commenting or text-editing tools has been set to white (or whatever the background color of the PDF is)? Select the invisible text box; you should see its boundaries or a blinking cursor appear. Then, locate the Format Text toolbar, which is usually at the top of the window or in a "Comment" side panel. Find and click the Font Color icon, and select a color that stands out, such as Black. The text you typed should now immediately become visible. Or is the opacity or transparency of the text box or text tool may be set to 0%. Check the same Format Text toolbar for a transparency or opacity slider (it might look like two overlapping squares). Make sure it is set to 100%.
