Windows 11 saving PDF that is password protected not working

New Here ,

Hi there!

I have encountered an error saving a password protected pdf in a shared file drive on Windows 11. Once I save a PDF to a folder within the drive, I can access it as normal. However, for once I password protect it and then attempt to save the PDF, I recieve a "This document could not be saved. Cannot save to this filename. Please save the document with a different name or in a different folder" error. Acrobat suggests that the file is a .tmp file as soon as I attempt to save it, thus generating the error.

Is this a bug?

Thank you.

Hi @Scott29819498tvh0

Sorry for the troubled experience, and thanks for taking the time to reach out.

Ideally, you should be able to save the file to a Shared drive without any issues, since this is not working as expected.

We want to rule out whether this is a file, app, or configuration issue with Shared Drive.

Please try the following:

  • Create a one-page test document using Password Protect, save it with one name locally, and then try saving it again on Shared Drive to check the issue.
  •  Launch Acrobat > Use Cmd/Ctrl + K > Preferences > Enhanced Security > Add Shared Drive to privilege location - Folder path.
  • What happens with other file formats like PPT or .docx
  • When did this issue start, was it working fine earlier.

Let us know how it works, if possible please try screen recording the workflow and if there are any errors, please let us know

Hi,

I am also having this same issue.

Its only when the PDF is in a shared folder location. I followed the steps you outlined but it still didn't work.

I made sure the adboe application was upto date as well.

As a workaround they are copying the file to the desktop, password protecting it, then moving it back. This is time comsuming when they deal with lots per day.

When trying to password protect, it comes up with the password box, we enter a pssword and press okay and it come up with that message. The name of the file has then changed to a temp name rather than the save name that it was origonally. I have attached an image, the name of the PDF is Testadoc, same as the content.

It has been working fine up until yesterday.

Many Thanks

Hi @grady_0982

Thank you for reaching out with your question.

Judging from the screenshot attached, it seems there is a problem with the file name. Please check this Microsoft post: https://adobe.ly/3YdkAks This may not be exactly relevant OS version-wise, however, the naming convention is something you should put focus on.

Hi,

I am also having the same issue , i have checked with other users and they are able to save directly to a network share however 1 user cannot, the file path length is 168 characters long, when saving to the desktop it allows to save but trying to save directly to the shared drive the same error mentioned above pops up.

I have added the network path to this location Preferences > Enhanced Security > Add Shared Drive to privilege location - Folder path, but the error still occurs.

It was working absolutely fine yesterday but today its now no longer working.

I have also reinstalled adobe Pro

Hi, the same thing goes for our end users now, all are under Windows 11, was this resolved? The filename is pretty small, we also tested using different length with the same issues. Definitely it is not about the filename.

Hi.

If i remember correctly this fixed it.

Open Adobe

Click on Menu > Preferences->Security (Enhanced)

> Uncheck “Enable Protected mode at startup”

> untick “Enable Enhanced Security”

Click OK and restart Acrobat DC
