Windows Application Error Referenced Memory could not be written

Community Beginner ,
Jul 18, 2024 Jul 18, 2024

Hello,

I am having an issue with Adobe Acrobat Standard license when opening all PDF's. When I open the PDF's, I get the error in the attached image. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Adobe twice, updating Windows, rolling back the version of Adobe to DC June 2024 (24.002.20857) from DC Jul 2024 (24.002.20933), SFC, DISM, checked compatibility settings on .exe of the app, turned off protection mode in Adobe. Nothing seems to pop up in event viewer or Process monitor. Mind you, clicking OK on this pop-up does not close the application and does allow the PDF to be edited normally. Any help would be much appreciated.

The error if you can't see the picture is:

Windows - Application Error

The instruction at 0x0000000071C80670 referenced memory at 0x0000000071C80670. The memory could not be written. Click on OK to terminate the program.image.png

This issue got fixed over a remote session with an Adobe support Tech. The fix was uninstalling Adobe Acrobat, deleting all folders/directories named "Adobe" on Local drive (Program Files, PF x86, Common Files, etc...), then finally using the "Adobe Cleanup Tool" (this step isn't too important if you deleted everything). After that, you should be able to reinstall it and the pop-up will no longer appear.

Same issue here exactly.  All of my Windows Acrobat (DC) users are receiving this message since last week.

Same issue here as well.

Thanks for the resolution adminu3131854, and this is not directed at you but this is BS of Adobe.

It happened straight after the last update. I pay plenty for a subscription and for my trouble I get updates that screw everything up.

Now I have to go through this whole uninstall/Install process again.

Thanks Adobe - NOTTTTTTT!

I downgraded to 24.002.20759 Planned update, May 14, 2024 (AcrobatDCx64Upd2400220759.msp) today (at great pain as Adobe hides the latest updates in a few places in Windows) and the problem went away immediately.

Have disabled the updater for now, more of my time wasted.

Thank you for this link. I have 20 employees using Adobe and we get this error every time we open a PDF file.

I was able to make the error stop for a few days when I uninstalled, ran the clean-up tool and manually removed all instances of ADOBE from the registry and reinstall.

BUT, the problem is back and as annoying as ever. I have long wished for a link to a prior version where this did not occur.

And you, fine Human, have provided it.

Thank you!

Then export and import? The solution is meant to fix the issue at hand, not cater to every need.

the solution is to give us updates without errors that force us to uninstall/reinstall the program

This method from adminu31318584 cured this problem on my computer running Acrobat Professional DC. Uninstalling, deleting Adobe files, and reinstalling was relatively quick and resolved this significant problem that was interferring with other programs' functioning. The compatibility method did not cure the error.

More information: This "referenced memory" error on my Acrobat DC running under Windows 10 was associated with a JavaScript file I installed in Acrobat to create a keyboard shortcut to extract pages (see Request for keyboard shortcut to extract pages at https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-discussions/request-for-keyboard-shortcut-to-extract-pages/td...). This JavaScript file added an "extract pages" option in the Edit menu after the familiar menus, including Edit, appeared after I disabled "new Acrobat" under the new Acrobat's menu.

After I followed the Acrobat file deletion method of adminu31318584, the "referenced memory" error recurred after I re-installed the "extract pages" JavaScript under the "old Acrobat" with its Edit menu.  However, the "referenced memory" error, even with the "extract pages" JavaScript file installed, disappeared after I unchecked the boxes "Enable menu items JavaScript execution privileges" and "Enable global object security policy" at Preferences > JavaScript > JavaScript Security. A keyboard shortcut to extract pages has been a time saver for me.

Crazy that you were "working on a fix" a year ago, and yet, it is still happening.
