With the August update 2024.002.21005, I'm experiencing display issues with non-embedded fonts. The

Hello everyone,

I create my PDF files using a third-party tool (ipape.at), and unfortunately, with the new version of Acrobat, I'm experiencing display issues. The font is displayed much too large, making the text unreadable. I've attached an example PDF for reference. This PDF-File was made out of an Excel Table, "Peter Paul and Mary", font Calibiri, size 11.

Has anyone else encountered this issue or have any suggestions? The problem only started with the  August update—everything was fine before then.

In my organization, I haven't had any issues, but I'm concerned that my customers will soon face problems, and I have no control over that.

Thank you in advance.

Best Regards,

Peter

I took a closer look at the problem. My PDF writer is indeed using an embedded font, specifically TT17o00, and it is not being displayed correctly with the newest Adobe Reader. When I replace the font using PDF-XChange Editor, the result is fine again. Any ideas for me?

I have the same problem. PDF file was created with printer driver "MS Publisher Imagesetter" (=> postscript) and converted with Ghostscript to PDF. The fonts seem to be "Type 1" and embedded.

Adobe Reader 2024.002.20991 is ok, 2024.002.21005 shows fonts too big and misplaced. The same PDF file can be viewed with Firefox and MS Edge without problems.

Same here. There were no issues with the old Acrobat Reader version, and all other PDF readers work fine.

My concern is that we have public customers who may not be able to easily use other PDF readers.

same problem here, it must be due to the update. I still had the old version on one machine, which displayed the PDFs correctly, then I updated and the problem occurred.

Same File no Problems with Firefox or Edge

Same issue here. Adobe support suggests printing the file with chrome again as PDF then the file is readable again. Any ideas how to really fix this?

I simply reinstalled an older version and switched off the automatic update.

However, the problem for me is that customers can't read the invoices. I hope there will be a hotfix soon, we are not alone with this problem.

I also wrote to support and they said I should send them some test data and they will analyze it. I also had to download a diagnostic tool and provide data from it, I have hope.

If I hear anything I'll post it here

We are also using ipaper.at and they told me to use the PDF/A printer as a temporary workaround until the issue is fixed.

Hello Marco,

same here. I have then changed my approach. I am now generating the PDF files with a different tool and using the DropZone from iPaper to handle the rest of the automated process (put the doucuments on our letter head and so on). In the end, it turned out to be quite simple for me to implement.

Good luck with your problem. I fear it might take an other months until Adobe solve the problem.

Best Regards,

Peter

i tried with the solution from this post: PDF displaying text as little squares - Adobe Community - 10493090
and the PDF with ghostcript was re-created in readable format.

Windows command used here with gs version 10.03.1:
gswin64 -sFONTPATH="C:\Program Files\gs\gs10.03.1\Resource\Font" -o c:\temp\outputfile.pdf -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -dPDFSETTINGS=/prepress c:\temp\originalfile.pdf

Maybe this will help someone

Wolfgang, you also saved me with your valuable tip about the Drop Zone feature, which I hadn't noticed before. It was the crucial insight I needed to solve the problem in my ERP software.

Yes, the problem has to do with embedded "outline" fonts. Independently I found that in my situation (MS Publisher Imagesetter + Ghostscript) changing the setting in the printer driver "Document Options - PostScript Options - TrueType Font Download Option" to "Bitmap" instead of "Outline" helped in most cases.

The same problem is also described here:

According to a comment from an Adobe employee dated 20.08.2024, there should be a patch for this next week.

Thank you, the problem has been resolved on my end as well. However, I had to handle it myself earlier, which led to two rather stressful days. But no worries...
