Acrobat reader (32 bit) versionĀ 24.005.20320 excessively slow

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone else is having issues with Acrobat reader (32 bit) version 24.005.20320 for being very slow? It is a weird issue where if reader is closed and I open a pdf from my file explorer it opens fast, but if reader is opened already and I try to open another PDF from my file explorer it takes about 40 seconds sometimes minutes to open. Im not sure if this is a issue with the newest update or an issue in my settings? Please let me know if there is a fix for this

I work for an MSP and I have seen hundreds of people complain about this issue with 24.005.20320 so you are not alone. About the most i have been able to do is uninstall with Acro cleaner and reinstall fresh but even that doesn't always help. Seems to be a bug with the current version. I doubt Adobe isn't aware of the issue.

Hi,

I’m also noticing issues with Acrobat Reader (32-bit) version 24.005.20320 being unusually slow. Like you mentioned, opening a PDF when Reader is closed works fine, but if Reader is already open, it takes a long time (sometimes minutes) to load another PDF.

This seems to have started after the latest update. I’m not sure if it’s a bug or something in the settings causing the delay.

If anyone has experienced this and found a fix, please share your solution. Thanks!

Seen the issue in bother Acrobat Reader (x86) and Acrobat Acrobat DC (Reader, Std, Pro). Try to run the Acro Cleaner and reinstall Adobe Reader. Let us know if it helps.

Yep, I’m seeing the same issue with that version — super slow when Reader is already open. First PDF loads fine, but any after that from File Explorer take forever. Seems like a bug with the latest update. Some folks said switching to the 64-bit version or rolling back to an earlier build helped, so that might be worth trying. Hopefully Adobe patches it soon.

LATEST

Hi @terry_5124,

Hope you are doing well. Sorry for the trouble with Acrobat.

Would you mind updating the app to the latest version (2025.001.20458) and letting us know if that helps?

We made many stability and performance enhancements to these versions, and would like your feedback on the same.

To do so, go to Acrobat> Menu> Help> Check for Updates.

If the experience is the same on the latest version, help us gather logs from your machine: https://adobe.ly/4l1gBRA Please make sure Procmon is selected. You can upload logs using this tool and share your Unique log ID with us.

Regards,

Souvik.
