Acrobat Reader DC keeps crashing when multiple pdf files are open and I switch between them.

I have a PC, Win 8.1. I notice the problem specifically when I have search boxes open in the files and I attempt to switch between the open pdfs. If I just have one pdf open I don't have this issue. This makes searching through multiple documents at once impossible.

Hi sf_flshbk,
Please let me know the exact dot version of Acrobat Reader DC installed on your system?
In the mean time, open Acrobat Reader DC, navigate to Help menu & repair the installation.

I have the same problem, but with Win 7 (64 bit).
Have repaired the installation; have unchecked Enhanced Security (as suggested elsewhere). Still crashes with 2 pdf files of around 2MB each.
No other open windows, no memory shortage.
More suggestions?
Gerry

Hi gerryv38442732,
As it seems to be file specific issue you can try recreating the PDF using Acrobat application.

It happens with many different files when multiple files are open (usually 2, each about 2MB).
I'm going back to Adobe Acrobat XI if I can figure out how.

The latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader DC. Even uninstalled and downloaded/ installed a fresh version, but the same thing happened. I have now gone back to Reader XI and it is stable with multiple larger files open simultaneously.
Good luck with it, I'm out of here.

I've got a similar problem.
Acrobat DC, Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.
When I try to open multiple files at once, the program shuts down.
Manipulating a large file with some changes.....the program intermittently shuts down.

Has anything being done to fix this issue.
If this was my business or had this many client complaints about one issue I would make it a priority to fix.
Please give us some feedback.

In all honesty your answer to convert or save the PDF using Acrobat application is bull.... Adobe is the brainchild behind Permanent Document Format, yet there are independent companies and open source scripts out there that outperform your product.... This is beyond embarrassing.... Simply creating an account to comment here was like jumping through flaming hoops....Not to mention that your download page has that stupid Mcaffee installation which to the uninformed can wreak all kinds of havoc with their preferred AV... this is immoral promotion or actions in my opinion.... if i wanted McAfee I would search for it and download it myself.... don't need Adobe throwing it in my face!
It should not be the users responsibility to have to copy and/or change all their file formats from their preferred application that may have created the PDF, to one that is suitable for your reader...... FIX YOUR SOFTWARE SO THAT IT IS COMPATIBLE WITH OTHER PDF FORMATS.

PS: Just downloaded Foxit and has all the feature including a PDF printer all rolled into one package instead of Mutuple packages for each application.... this prevent script conflict (like what everyone here is bitching about)..... does not promote or install any secondary programs.
The only downside was pop ups on first use... but that I can live with...after first use it all seems to be pretty much usable.
The user interface is a little dull but it works and that's all i need.

Took me 2 hours to do what it should take 5 minutes to do thanks to hanging/ crashing Adobe reader DC .... but after new software (Foxit) i completed my task in under 10 minutes (given that there was an issue with replacing or overwriting a PDF while a copy with the same name is open using Foxit.... learning curve).
So goodbye Adobe Reader DC see you never.

Eureka!
In that I have been able to successfully recreate this issue in a number of environments.
It appears as long as I change the PDFs by using the UI Tabs in Adobe Reader DC , no problem.
If I use the Windows Task Bar to switch PDFs however, after the first 2 or 3 switches. BLAM-O! Adobe Reader freezes completely, all files.
If I had to guess, something to do with the introduction of the tab UI has caused a handling conflict of some sort.

I also have this problem (Windows 7 64bit) it all started with DC. Before DC your reader was at least ok, now it's just a piece of crap.

The Adobe Acrobat Reader DC still crashes on Windows 10 (Build 10586) after an upgrade to the newest version 15.010.20060. As BrokenSyntax_‌ has pointed out already, it only happens when files are switched using the taskbar thumbnails.

I'm seeing the exact same problem in my environment, and I've been able to duplicate it on multiple computers.
Duplication steps:
1) Open more than 1 PFD document in DC; should be displayable with multiple tabs
2) Minimize DC to taskbar
3) Open DC again by selecting one of the individual PDF tabs from the taskbar
4) Frozen!
Is Adobe doing anything to rectify this problem?

Try opening more than one file at one time; same result. This is ridiculous. Someone from Adobe please weigh in!

Just like original poster, I suffered with the program crashing whenever I had to switch between multiple opened PDF's on DC. Adobe Reader DC is very unreliable in my personal opinion. I have since uninstalled it and reverted back to Adobe Reader XI. Very stable, no crashes whatsoever. Here's some quick instructions for Windows, which is what both me and the original poster is using. The instructions should be similar on Mac as well
1) Remove Adobe Reader DC from Add/Remove Programs (Control Panel)
2) Go to the Adobe Reader downloader page: https://get.adobe.com/reader/
3) Click "Do you have a different language or operating system?"
4) Choose your OS
5) Choose language
6) Choose "Reader 11.0.10" *IMPORTANT! Don't choose DC otherwise you're back to where you started*
Download and Install. When you launch Adobe Reader, go to Edit > Preferences, click the Updater category, and select Do not download or install updates automatically. This will prevent Adobe from trying to update itself to the horror that is DC.
Now enjoy using a workable version of Reader.
Note you cannot install Reader XI on top of DC. The installer will detect DC being the newer version and cancel setup.

Thank you so much for suggesting the return to Acrobat Reader XI (and for telling me where to find it!). Sanity has been restored - I can't think how such a widely-used program can have 'developed' to be so bad.

Adobe Reader DC (v 2015.010.20060) crashes as previous users have described (2 or more open PDFs + switching between tabs using windows toolbar = crash). Windows 10 64bit.
Old Acrobat Reader X etc worked fine. Also, the new save dialogue is a major hassle when working with/annotating multiple PDFs.

Dude it is shocking how little response or effort is put in by the Adobe group.
What is even more shocking is that PDF is their brainchild and yet other developers manage to get their readers to work just fine.
There are many free readers available, with print, convert, edit, and many of the required functionality.
Some unfortunately have adverts, pop-ups, or limited trials. (suppose they need to make money somehow).
