Acrobat Reader DC - "Adobe Acrobat Reader has stopped working"

Good morning.

I am currently running Acrobat Reader DC version 15.023.20053 (this is the free reader). I am running Windows 10. I am constatnly receiving an error message from Windows when I try to open a PDF, "Adobe Acrobat Reader has stopped working"

  • When I open Acrobat Reader DC from the application icon in File Explorer, I get the intro window. No problems.
  • When I right-click on any PDF and "Open with Acrobat Reader DC," the program starts but then gives me the message: "Adobe Acrobat Reader has stopped working"
  • When I have Reader open already at the intro window and attempt to open a PDF from the File menu, I get the same problem.
  • The PDF that I want to view never appears before the error message. Once and only once, after I restarted my machine, the PDF I wanted to view appeared on the screen but then the same error message appeared.

Things I have tried to fix this problem:

  1. Uninstall and reinstall Reader from the Adobe website. No Go.
  2. Using the "Programs and Features" from the Windows Start Menu, I tried to repair installation errors. No Go.
  3. I reviewed some previous suggestions on this forum ( AadeshSingh ) including: Disabling "Protected Mode at Startup;" Disabling the Preview Pane; And trying to create some specific directories under "AppData" but the location where I am supposed to create those directories does not exist. No Go.

This is a rather frustrating problem. The program worked fine when I left work on Friday.

V/R,

MLW

I'm having the same problem today. I tried rolling back the windows updates from 1/14/16 but that didn't work either.

The problem starts whenever the program tries to connect to te document cloud.
