In Acrobat reader
When I go to View > Read Aloud > Activate Read Out Loud
Then Either press Read this page only or read to end of document after that it does not work.
It is not the sound or the speakers either I have tested this and they work.
Also it does seem to make a funny sound just as I press it slightly but it does not read anything aloud.
Why would this be?

Hello i_do_not_know(Josh),
We're sorry for the trouble you had with the Read out Loud feature. Please reboot the machine once and repair Adobe Reader from help>repair installation and check if this brings any difference.
Check for any pending updates of Adobe Reader from help>check for updates, reboot the machine after updating Adobe Reader.
Navigate to Adobe Reader's Preferences from Edit>Preferences>Reading>Check the volume settings and the option of 'Use default voice.'
Is it specific to one PDF or with all the PDF files? have you tried with other PDF? If not please try with other PDF and see if this issue is reproducible.
If it is specific to one PDF file and the Read Out Loud is not working, try disabling the Protected Mode once.
It is not recommended to disable Protected mode as it provides additional security and avoids potential security risks associated with files that may have originated from unsafe locations.
But for testing purpose, please disable the Protected Mode once from Edit>Preferences>Security(Enhanced) and see if this brings any difference.
Make sure to enable the Protected Mode back.
