Acrobat Reader 'poster' option greyed out

Hey all,

I'm trying to print a sewing pattern from acrobat reader, which has to be printed as tiles using the poster page sizing option. But when I go to print, the 'poster' button is greyed out and I can't click on it. I've got the latest version and everything and the file is specifically meant to be printed this way. Any advice?

Thanks!

In the print "Advanced  Print Setup" dialogue box, make sure that "print as image" is not checked.

Hey! That usually happens if the file has print restrictions or if it's not a standard page size (like a large custom size). Try saving a copy of the PDF or opening it in a different viewer like Foxit or PDF24. Also, double-check that the document isn't password-protected. Hope that helps.

I found the answer. Adobe does not currently support this in new macbook versions, as indicated when you go to Advanced Settings. It didn't work for me even when I bought the full product.

The workaround I found is installing an OLD VERSION of Acrobat Reader.

STEPS
1. Uninstall/Remove all adobe reader/DC from your mac
2. Go here and select Version 10.14 https://get.adobe.com/reader/otherversions

3. Download, Install. Reset your computer if need be.

4. Yay, it works.

Thank you so much! I've been struggling with this issue forever! This worked perfectly for me.

This was the only reason to have this application installed on my computer.

If it is truly disabled for only the free version, this is misleading and scammy. Not the first time Adobe has done this to me

I can also confirm same as the most recent poster(s) that if you move to the paid Acrobat version (I just did the free trial) that it fixes the issue with all of the options being greyed out in Sonoma thereby allowing you to tile print your poster. I'm BEYOND angry with this for several reasons. If they were just up front about this feature being moved to paid-only, it would at least resolve the confusion and wasted time for everyone posting here. And if it's a genuine bug that is only present in Reader (vs Acrobat Pro), they've had almost a whole calendar YEAR to resolve the bug, but they haven't. Both of these scenarios are unacceptable from Adobe, ostensibly one of the largest software companies in the world. To add insult to injury, I can't turn on the TV without seeing another inane ad for their generative AI features which no one asked for, and meanwhile their longstanding products and features aren't even working. Make it make sense??

I am with you. I am so incredibly angry that I will hop on your comment to vent. These scammy, skeezy companies love milking us all dry for subpar service and a lack of new, legitimately useful features. Instead, they will just hide all the old features behind a paywall! I really encourage every single person who looks at this thread to stop wasting your money and stop using Adobe. If you keep giving them money, they will continue making their services worse and worse yet somehow hiking the price up! Money talks; use your voice!

Hello,
I was having the same problem and came across your post. I signed up for an Adobe subscription, and it worked. It appears to me that the free membership no longer offers the opportunity to print posters. I hope this is useful.

It's 2024 and I'm having the same problem and the solution that worked back in 2021 (uncheck "print as image") doesn't work today with Sonoma 14 and the latest free version of Adobe Reader. As shown in the screenshot, only print as images is supported by MacOS14. Anybody has found a solution in 2024?

same it's ridiculous.

I figured out what the problem is. Apparently this is a paid feature now. The work arounds do not work. Deselecting the print as image doesn't work. Nothing else worked. I clicked the free trial and all the sudden boom, worked as it has been for all these years. So my conclusion is you now have to subscribe to use this print poster mode. Hope this helps.

Wow thank you so much! So sad that Adobe didn't let us users know that it's now a paid feature. They're trying to milk people dry. Do you happen to know any alternatives other than Adobe?

Found the alternative and its good in tiling in every aspect. Use coreldraw.

Also having the same problem, trying to print a poster but I cannot 'uncheck' the 'print as image' because it is also greyed out. Any update on when this will be fixed and available on Mac again?

Use DocuSlice off the apple App store on an iPhone, free and works a treat!

Having the same issue, I've tried everything you mentioned. Any luck?
