Is it possible to add the draw button to quick tools in Reader? I can't work out how.
Otherwise, I'd have to access draw via the comment tool bar... HOWEVER I can no longer use the comment tool bar sensibly as anything that gets clicked opens up a pop up, or opens the comment window. In a nutshell the recent adobe update has made editing via pen and highlighter a complete waste of time.
Thanks
Paul
Hi Paul,
Could you try updating Reader to the latest patch 19.010.20069 using "Check for updates" option under "Help" menu, Reboot the machine after installing update and check if that resolves the issue.
You may also download updates from here: Adobe software and product updates
Thanks,

Hello Paul,
Customizing Quick Tools is not available in the freeware Adobe Reader application.
The customization is available in Acrobat. For detailed information, you may refer to the Adobe article Adobe Acrobat Workspace basics in Acrobat DC
You may file a feature request or request modifications in existing feature using the following URL Feature Request/Bug Report Form
Feel free to update this discussion for any further assistance.
Thanks,
Anand Sri.

So, just to check i've got this right...
The functionality is not in Free Reader DC, it's only in Not-Free Acrobat DC?
And the new update has screwed the annotation functionality up in Free Reader DC - by forcing unwanted selections and pop-ups using pen and highlighter - so that I'll migrate to the Not-Free version?
Is that what's happened???

Hi Paul,
Yes, you are correct. Customizing Quick tools is available with Acrobat Pro DC license/subscription, not with the freeware Adobe Reader application. For plan and pricing of Acrobat, please refer to Plans and pricing | Adobe Acrobat DC
Could you please tell us more about the issue you are facing with the annotation functionality? Would you mind sharing a screenshot? To post a screenshot, refer to the steps mentioned in the article https://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-7043#jive_content_id_How_do_I_attach_a_screenshot
What is the current version of Adobe Reader installed? To identify the version, refer to the help article Identify the product and its version for Acrobat and Reader DC
Are you on a Mac or Windows machine and what is the version?
You may refer to the article to know more about the annotation functionality View, reply, print comments in Adobe Acrobat
We're here to help, just need more info.
Thanks,
Anand Sri.

Hi Anand
I’ve attached a screenshot of the problem. I indicated the problem in red pen, but realised I didn’t quite explain it fully.
In Comment function, whenever I highlight something, it forces the comment window open, which means I then have to manually close it. I suspect this has something to do with turning the comment pop up function off… but I had to do that because every time I highlighted something I got a pop up, which I then had to manually close!
I can use the highlight function from the Quick Tools menu and, fine, it doesn’t force the comment window open. But then I have no access to the pen icon, so I can’t use the pen!!
I don’t see how I can get around this.
Your help would be appreciated. It’s the latest version of Reader DC, and I’ve recently uninstalled and reinstalled it, just to make sure.
I’m using it on a Lenovo ThinkPad 2 tablet, with Windows 10, and the Lenovo pen.
Best wishes
Paul

Hi Paul,
I usually use Pro where there is a lot of customization, but just tested this in the free Reader. It might work for you, at least partway.
Open the Comments pane > Right-click in the toolbar > choose customize and add the tools that you plan to use.

Close the Comments pane. I had to close it a couple of times; then it stayed closed as I was using the Draw tool, but opened when I clicked the Selection tool.

Thanks for taking the time to respond, Jane, but I don't think it solves my problems.
You're right that the draw function doesn't open the comments pane, after a while. But the highlighter still does.
You can use the highlighter in quick tools (which doesn't open the comments pane) but then you don't get access to the draw function.
I've noticed that this general problem is causing people a lot of hassle, e.g. this query
Re: Disable Highlight Pop Up Note Problem
I think that Adobe has totally screwed up by not understanding how people use their product.
Cheers
