Measure tool not working due to line snap

New Here ,
Jun 19, 2025 Jun 19, 2025

Adobe acobat reader measuring tool not able to performed proper measurement due to line "snap" function not working.   The line "snap" function use to be working fine until I make some change on 2D measuring option.  I click on " Use Orthographic Lines" option and the "snap" function just go haywire.  De-select the option the problem still exist, try "Repaired Installation" from the "Help" also not working.

It seem like there is a "bug" in the software.

Below example 2 same point but the reading is different.  If the line snap function is working, it will snap on the first line and follow by the next line.

Hello @Clever_responsibility0502

I hope you are doing well, and thanks for reaching out.

The issue could be due to:

  • You enabled “Use Orthographic Lines”, which forces measurements to lock to vertical or horizontal paths.

  • After disabling it, the “Snap to Path/Line/Endpoint” features no longer behave as expected.

  • Even after a repair installation, the snapping logic seems broken, likely due to a cached preference or corrupted measurement profile.

Reset Measuring Tool Preferences

    • Go to Menu> Preferences > Measuring (2D)
    • Click "Restore Defaults."
    • Restart Acrobat Reader and test the snap behavior again

Disable and Re-enable Snap Settings

    • In the Measuring Tool, right-click and ensure:
      • Snap to Paths is enabled
      • Snap to Endpoints is enabled
      • Snap to Intersections is enabled
    • Toggle these off and on again to reset their behavior

Reset the App's preferences, and restart the machine. Ensure that you have the latest version of Acrobat installed on the machine: 25.001.20531 (Win) | 25.001.20529 (Mac), planned update June 10, 2025. Check for any pending updates from the Menu > help > check for updates, install the updates, restart the app and the machine, and try again with a different PDF.

If the issue persists, perform a clean installation using the Acrobat Cleaner tool to remove the current app, restart the machine, and install Acrobat Reader.

If the issue continues, please provide the following information: the current version of the operating system on your device, a sample PDF file, and the logs from the affected machine. To collect the logs, download and run the Log Collector tool. Make sure to select all log options and attempt to reproduce the issue. After that, close the Log Collector tool; it will generate the logs along with a log ID. Please share this log ID with us for further investigation.

Thanks,

Anand Sri.
