Adobe Acrobat Reader DC - Disable Start Free Trial

New Here ,
Feb 26, 2019 Feb 26, 2019

Hi,

Need to roll out Adobe Acrobat Reader DC MUI 19.008.20080 to 50,000+ machines. When launching a PDF, I get a 'Start Free Trial' in the bottom right hand corner. Whilst the majority or users wouldn't be able to download and install this, I want to remove this as a best practice for a large corporate environment.

NB - bAcroSuppressUpsell = 1 already set via policy key/Adobe Customisation wizard but made no difference.

Hi

Here are the steps to manually add the entry via Regedit

Within the cIPM Key

Create a new DWORD (32-bit) Value

name: bDontShowMsgWhenViewingDoc

Value: 0

As per the 2 attached images

II regret to have to tell you that I do not know why you have sent me that document. As told in a previous message I am a private user, not a developer that need single steps to delete that awful Try Adobe Reader DC blue label. You have explained very well how to do that in Windows not in Mac Os. Regards

a collegue of yours has sent this step process

Step 1: Quit Adobe Acrobat Reader

Make sure Adobe Acrobat Reader DC is completely closed.

Step 2: Open Terminal

Click Spotlight Search (:magnifying_glass_tilted_left: top-right corner).

Type Terminal.

Press Enter.

Copy and paste these commands one at a time into Terminal:

# Create the FeatureLockdown section if it doesn't exist

sudo /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c "Add :DC dict" /Library/Preferences/com.adobe.Reader.plist 2>/dev/null

sudo /usr/libexec/PlistBuddysudo /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c "Add :DC:FeatureLockdown dict" /Library/Preferences/com.adobe.Reader.plist 2>/dev/null

# Add the bDisableUpsell key and set it to true

When prompted, enter your Mac password (it won’t appear as you type; simply press Enter after typing).

Step 3: Refresh macOS preferences
Run: sudo killall cfprefsd

This clears the cache, allowing Acrobat to read your new setting.

Step 4: Restart Acrobat Reader
Quit Reader completely and reopen it. The “Start Free Trial” banner should now be gone.

I am stuck in # Add the bDisableUpsell key and set it to true" I do not know how to do it. I´ve sent him a message for the right command and have received no response from him.

Your help in this issue will be highly appreciated.

Regards,

Hello @J.277204462zdf

I hope you are doing well, and we're sorry for the trouble you had.

Please close all Adobe applications, open the Activity Monitor, and terminate all Adobe-related processes. Then use the Acrobat Cleaner tool to remove any trace of licensing information and the currently installed Acrobat or Reader app. Restart the machine, and install the freeware Acrobat Reader.

Sign in with your Adobe ID (email) and check.

If the issue persists, please create a test user profile with full admin rights, install Acrobat Reader, and test. If the issue continues, please collect the logs from the machine and share them with us for further investigation. To collect the logs, see this article: https://adobe.ly/4qg90jX

Regards,

Anand Sri.
