Adobe Acrobat Update Service

New Here ,
Oct 31, 2024 Oct 31, 2024

My goal: to ensure automatic updating of Adobe Acrobat Reader. The user does not have admin rights.
1) Does Adobe Acrobat Update Service update Adobe Acrobat Reader?
2) Where is the log of this service?
3) Where are the settings of this service?
4) How often does the service check/install updates and how to change it?

P.S.

All this concerns the latest versions of the program, not outdated ones.

Hi @michael_2658

Thanks for posting your query to Adobe. Please find my responses

1. Adoeb Acrobat Updater Service will work to update Adobe Reader. In Auto mode users will get updates applied even if they don't have admin rights.

2. Logs are created in users Temp folder which is for our consumption. Do you have any use case to access the logs?

3. The service checks for updates every 3 hours and there are no configurable settings for this service.

Regards

Ravi

What is Auto Mode? How to on or off it?

Do you mean C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Local\Temp? If yes - what <User> will be?

Hi @michael_2658

1. Auto mode is that updater is triggered and updated the App without user intervention while manual mode is when users do a Help->Check for Updates.

2. <User> is your login username on the machine.

How does the "Adobe Acrobat Update Task" scheduled task fit into this?

It runs at user logon and repeats every 3:30 hours. It also runs at 10:00am every day.

It runs with the same permissions as the logged in user and only runs when a user is logged on.

Hello @Server Team

I hope you are doing well, and sorry for the delayed response.

The “Adobe Acrobat Update Task” is a scheduled task created during Acrobat installation that helps keep the application up to date. It checks:

  • Checks for Updates: It runs silently in the background to check for updates to Acrobat and Reader.
  • Triggers AdobeARM.exe: This task launches the Adobe Reader and Acrobat Manager (AdobeARM.exe), which handles downloading and installing updates.
  • Runs at Logon and Every 3.5 Hours: This ensures that updates are applied promptly without requiring manual checks.
  • Runs Only When a User Is Logged In: It uses the permissions of the currently logged-in user, which limits its ability to install updates unless the user has administrative rights.

Keeping Acrobat updated is important for:

  • Security patches
  • Bug fixes
  • Compatibility with OS updates.

I hope this helps, and let us know if you need any further assistance.

Thanks,

Anand Sri.
