Adobe crashes when not connected to the network

All,

For the past several months my users were complaining to me that Adobe would crash and delete the file they were working on.  My theory was that they were disconnected from the network when they attempted to save the document.  I was finally able to take this from theory to proof.  The following steps will cause reader to crash.

  1. While connected to the network, begin to fill out a form
  2. Input information in
  3. Save the PDF, do NOT close Adobe
  4. Disconnect from the network
  5. Input more information
  6. Click save
  7. Adobe crashes and the PDF is lost

Adobe applications, such as Acrobat Reader and Premiere Rush, can experience crashes when not connected to a network. This issue often occurs because these applications may require network access for certain features or to verify licenses. For example, Adobe Acrobat may crash if it tries to access online resources or verify its license and fails due to a lack of network connection.

Similarly, Adobe Premiere Rush on iOS has been reported to crash when it detects no network connection, limiting access to projects that were not previously opened on the device .

To mitigate these issues, ensure that your Adobe applications are updated to the latest version and check if there are any settings that require constant network access that can be adjusted for offline use.

Still an issue 2024, or similar, if opening a file stored on a smb share, when switching to another lan for some other but related work, simultanously adding comments to the pdf, when switching back to the lan, the reader gets "forked".

     Hi there

    Hope you are doing well.

What is the version of the OS and the Acrobat DC you are using? To check the version go to Help > About Acrobat and make sure you have the recent version 24.02.20759 installed. Go to Help > Check for updates and reboot the computer once.

Also collect the Crash/freeze logs https://adobe.ly/3R7ZgZU share them via any cloud storage. Just upload the log file to the cloud and generate the link and share that link with us for further investigation.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused to you.

Request you to update reader via Help->Check for update... Please share following if still observing the issue.

    • Reader version and system information
    • Share Memory dump of crashing Reader
      • enable the Windows crash reporting WER feature. Steps to enable crash dump creation: Collecting User-Mode Dumps (Windows)
      • OR You can also use the attached registry key to enable the automatic crash dump creation. This will place the dump at C:\Dumps\. dump.reg

You can upload and send via https://cloud.acrobat.com/send

Please let us know how it goes.

    -Thanks

    Hi leef25535145,

Sorry for the delay in response.

I know you tried to put all the information on the thread, would you please help us with the below information:

    Acrobat/Reader current version?

    Where are those forms located?

Are you using Fill and Sign to fill those forms?

If you already have got the answer to this problem, please try responding with the solution you have found, if possible.
