Adobe ifilter 11 for 64-bit platforms and uncontrollable file creations

Hello All,

In an attempt to index Adobe Acrobat content on our Windows 2008R2 server I added the iFilter 11 per the following document:

http://supportdownloads.adobe.com/detail.jsp?ftpID=5542

Following this installation, I had the server rebuild the index. Once the index was rebuilt, there was content from Acrobat PDF documents.

The problem is that once this was installed the server begin creating a nearly endless number of Folders on the root of drive C: Each folder has a name which starts with A9R…. and had a sequence of numbers and letters after that. An example is “A9R1338-450dab08”.

In each of the folders there is one Acrobat document which is a duplicate of a PDF document found on the area of the computer that was indexed.

The goal is to eliminate the folders which appear to be created by the iFilter or Windows Search. I don’t know which is causing this.

An internet search lead to the linked document below, which notes some possible ways of eliminating this issue.

https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1140525

I followed the linked guide step by step including the many comments made through 6-18, 2016 and tested after each step. None of the recommended changes has stopped the process of creating the files on the root of the C drive, or provided a way to automatically delete the files once they are created.

Is there a way to use the iFilter version 11 or a different edition of the iFilter which either does not create the directories and files on the root of drive C: or where there is a way to delete these folders?

Many thanks for your time and feedback!

Try setting it to c:\windows\temp\ instead.

Does anyone from Adobe Support monitor this forum?

Is it possible to pay Adobe Support and receive a solution for this issue or is this just a case of flaky and unsupported software?

What dud you set %TEMP% to?

Thank you for your reply.

The %temp% directory is set to the default location of c:\windows\temp and the permissions have been changed for full permissions for everyone.

This has made no change in the endless creation of folders on the root of drive c: and no folders related to this have been created in or under the %temp% folder.

The permissions change for the %temp% folder is noted in one of the articles I refreenced above.
