Adobe PDF File Blocked from Opening by Mcafee Virus Software

When attempting to open a PDF file I get an error message from Adobe Reader that

Adobe Reader could not open because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged

Then a Mcafee Box opens bottom right and gives me a Mcafee message stating we have stopped something dangerous that was trying to HiJack your app

This has been happening for about 3 weeks, I reloaded Adobe Reader 2 weeks ago, no help, contacted Mcafee and reloaded their software on Sep 3rd, no help

I had similar problem opening an Excel file

Has anyone else not experienced this issue, and, how can I fix it

Mitch

Hi Mitch,

Thanks for reaching out to us.

Would you mind sharing the version of the Adobe Acrobat/Reader DC you are using? To check the  version go to Help > About Acrobat and make sure you have the latest version 21.07.20091 installed. Go to Help > Check for updates and reboot the computer once.

Also, is this issue common with all pdfs or some specific ones?

Can you share any such pdf with us where you are getting this?

Thanks

Was there ever a solution for this? I am experiencing the exact same thing.

I cannot open any pdf files nor excel files.  I also have acrobat professional and have no issues with opening pdf files.

See attached screenshot, this is what I get when I try to open a PDF file along with a McAfee pop op that it prevented a dangerous file?!?!

I am running the latest Adobe version 2021.007.20099.

Please advise.

I am having the same problem. Why isn't Adobe helping us.

I have Adobe pro DC Version 4.030.00116 and Microsoft 365.

Perhaps because your screen shot seems to involve Malwarebytes and Word, not Acrobat.
