I had Adobe Reader on my Mac and it worked fine - I could edit files etc. However, I reinstalled it in the Adobe Reader DC format and it changed all the icons on my files. Now I cannot edit any of my files in Adobe. I have reinstalled it bu am now totally lost and frustrated.

It is possible to have the paid version of Acrobat and the free Reader installed. If you are on the same computer, it is possible that if you had the paid version (that could make edits) that it is still installed.

When you install new software, it likes to say "Shall I be the default?" So installing free Reader would change the icons. And double-clicking the file would open in the new software.

If my guess is correct, then all you need to do is change the association for .pdf to the other version of Acrobat where you can edit. Or open that version, then choose File > Open. Or get a newer version of Acrobat Standand or Pro.

Check to see if you have another version of Acrobat installed. This is just a hunch, based on what you've said. Let us know if it's there, and we can further advise.

The free Reader has never allowed editing. Are you sure you didn't have a paid version before?

Not sure Jane - the icons for pdfs in finder all changed when I downloaded DC and the format when opening documents changed - i.e. multiple docs in the same window as opposed to single docs opening in each window under the old system

Multiple docs in one window is normal. It’s a new feature of Dc, you could turn it off.

Can you you remember what you used to do to edit - what you clicked, what you changed?
