Hi Mollys,

As I understand, after updating Reader, you are unable to open pdfs in IE as when trying to open pdfs, it shows this message- There is a problem with Adobe Reader Acrobat/Reader. If it running, please exit and try again. (0:104), is this correct?

Please try the steps given in the following links:

Re: 11.0.2 error 0:104 help please?

There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat /Reader. If it is running ,please exit and try again.(0:104)

Hi Shivam,

I already tried those steps and it did not solve the problem.  As I mentioned on my original post, I don't have an issue with v2017.009.20044, PDF and IE play well.  The problem started with the newer versions.

Hi Mollys, Lisacollins,

Please try following troubleshooting steps:

1- Remove Reader DC using Cleaner tool which you can download from here: Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs

2- Reboot the machine.

3- Install Reader DC from here: Adobe - Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Distribution .

4- Reboot the machine and try opening pdf in IE.

5- If that doesn't work, try resetting Internet explorer settings. Visit the following link on how to reset IE settings.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/help/923737/how-to-reset-internet-explorer-settings

Thanks,

Shivam

Hello Shivam,

I followed the process that you mention, unfortunately I don't have success. I'm worried about this issue because is appearing in more laptops. I have Windows 10 64 bits. Has been able anyone to get sucess with this or another process?

Thanks for your efforts Shivam

I already did and I was told that Adobe does not provide support for Adobe Reader (Free software).  Do you know if this issue will be addressed on the next update?

Yes. we have to use Internet explorer. I have not checked chrome however Firefox is working fine and Edge is not available on LTSB version of Windows 10 so I didn't check.

What is LTSB Windows 10?

What forces you to use IE? Other apps/software?

you can use Google to find out what is Windows 10 LTSB. are you focusing on the issue and its solution or a way to run away from it when you are asking (What forces you to use IE? Other apps/software?)

It seems to me that if FireFox works then use it. That was my point.

Hi Soumik011,

I hope this information help with your investigation. Creating the TabProcGrowth registry key on HKEY_CurrentUser\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main and setting its value to 0 fixed the problem on my machine.

TabProcGrowth=0 means tabs and frames run within the same process;frames are not unified across MIC levels.

My question is, How does this registry key affect the functionality of the Adobe Reader? Why setting the value to 0 seem to fix the problem? as much as possible i don't want to change the default behavior of IE on my machine, which is opening tabs on each own process.

thanks!

Amazing tip, your tip works with my laptop (Win 10 Enterprise x64) but with a user with Windows 7 is not working, I trying to find additional information, I found a link Opening a New Tab may launch a New Process with Internet Explorer 8.0 – We know IE!  after read the article I made another revision to the MAIN folder in the registry I found other key related to this topic, TabDragOnSingleProc.

TabDragOnSingleProc=0

Use DWORD

I have this key in my laptop but is not in the windows 7 laptop, I added the value to the registry and before to test, I suggest close the internet explorer, (better if you sign out or restart), and vuala... its working in the laptop with Windows 7. Thanks for your post Jojo1977

My company has the same problem where the Adobe Reader plugin gives the error "There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat/Reader if it is running, please exit and try again. (0:104).

We only get with Windows 10, not every pdf, mostly internet pdf's.

Watching the temp folder it downloads the first 16k, then the error pops up.  Very consistently.

Using latest build of Adobe Reader 2017.  Have tried everything I can find in the forums including the TabProcGroth setting.  Which fixed one incident of this, but no others.  Works without plugin, that that causes other issues.

Fails with this URL on Windows 10 only https://centricityusers.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/win_servers_sp6_upgrade.pdf

Hi Soumik,

we are still facing the same issue for Windows 10 and Windows 7 as well even if I install the latest version 18.011.20058. I have sent the required logs to your email and I have not received any reply from you since then. please try to work with development team and find a solution ASAP as we are suffering from this since November last year.

Our organization is having the same issues with 18.011.20058. We pushed out the update to everyone and now they get the 1014 error in IE when opening PDF's.

We tried changing TabProcGrowth to 0, and it did fix the Reader addon issue, but it also breaks other web pages that generate processes outside of the browser, like Java and other sites that use ActiveX controls.

Adobe, we need a response on this.
