Adobe Reader Error

I use an old work Dell Desktop (64 bit OS) so I can continue to access years of PDF documents. I had a version of Adobe Reader which worked fine until 9/17/24 when an updated version was pushed out and all of a sudden I could not open any PDF documents.
I am using Windows 7 Professional Service Pack 1 6.1.7601 Build 7601
At the recommendation of an Adobe chat agent (Aki) I uninstalled the updated version of Adobe Reader and downloaded the 32 bit version (since I am using Windows 7)
Help! It is not working
The message I get is:
AcroRD32.exe – Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point EventSetInformation could not be located in the dynamic link library ADVAPI32.dll
Acrobat Failed to Load Its Core DLL
Can you please provide me with the information I need to get it working so I can access my PDF documents?
Thanks-
Arthur

Hi Ravi-
Thank you for your interest in helping to get this problem resolved. I am sorry to see that legs_7936 has encountered the same problem but it makes me all the more certain it is due to something more than a bug on my PC only and no one elses.
I am convinced it was created by the Adobe Reader download you all pushed out on 9/17/24.
Yes, of course I am interested, willing and available to work with you to get this debugged.
Ravi, are you aware of my Adobe on-line chat with your customer service rep Aki (Akibilahi) on 9/19/24? That chat included Aki's gaining access to my PC to try and get this figured out. It might be good if you can find that session transcript and review it.
Please advise as to next steps.
Best-
Arthur

I have the same problem.
You asked for the version of the version of advapi32.dll files
and I searched my directories for this file name and I discovered 12.
One was under System32 (C:\Windows.old\Windows) date: 8/28/2013
and another was under System32 (C:\Windows) date: 7/13/2009
Warning: I am not very computer literate.

I have had a problem too since last week. This is the PDF error message: the procedure entry point EventSetInformation could not be located in the dynamic link library ADVAPI32.dll.
I can save a word doucment as a PDF but then can't open it. I'm having to transfer the files from my PC to my MAC in order to be able to open them. This isn't ideal.

Yes, Im having the same problem. I need this to operate for my business. This is a significant problem since my report writing software only works on Windows 7 computers.

And then there were four! (Users with the same issue)
Hopefully Adobe can put some resources behind developing a fix for this.....
Again, it all dates back to the Adobe Reader update which was pushed out by Adobe on 9/17/2024

Authur, I'm having the same problem since 09/17. Same error. I'm on Windows 7 Home, 64bit. I've uninstalled, downloaded latest version for Win 7, then re-installed, and I get the same error. My version of ADVAPI32.dll is: 6.1.7600 16385.

I understand, but in my opinion the significant problem is who run windows 7 for their own business. Sometime isn't easy, sometime is expensive, but we are talking about windows 7. EOL in 2020.

Have had the problem with the (free) Adobe Acrobat Reader on 64-bit Win7 since last week too.
Error message: the procedure entry point EventSetInformation could not be located in the dynamic link library ADVAPI32.dll.
Uninstalled Acrobat Reader then, unable to find a base installation of an older version that would install on Win7 on the Adobe site I used a signed download of v9 (released in 2010) for Win7 on the Lenovo website. It reads PDF which is all I need (and the old UI is so much easier to work with).
I also stopped the Acrobat Update Service in services.msc to avoid Acrobat subsequently updating itself back to the broken release. It would be better if auto update was a preference that could be set from Acrobat.
I would be useful to know if and when a patched version of Acrobat that does work on Win7 gets released.

I've been having the same problem as everyone else. I'm using Windows 7 Home, 64bit. david_8814 - I couldn't find the V9 version you have, but I did find a version 9 on the following site: filehorse.com. I downloaded, installed it, and it's working fine. Also, I couldn't find: 'Acrobat Update Services,' but the Acrobat Reader 9 version I have has: 'Check for Updates' in the 'Help' Menu and it allows you to UNCHECK 'Automatic Updates.' Hope this helps everyone.

Same here. It happened sometime in the last few weeks (September 2024). Not sure of exact date since I was away. I tried reinstalling Reader and get the same error message.
