adobe reader won't 'uninstall'

I can't print pdfs or download pdfs on the web since downloading adobe reader 9.  The previous version (reader 😎 failed to uninstall and I am unable to use 'remove programme' to remove either version of reader.   The error message reads,  patch cannot be found.

Can anyone offer a solution?  I believe I need to uninstall all the adobe files and reinstall afresh but can't do it with add/remove programmes.

    You may want to try running this fix from Microsoft and uninstall all traces of any versions of Reader:

    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall

    If you want to reinstall Reader, download its full installer from

    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/

    After downloading, restart your computer and run the installer before doing anything else.
