I've been having this same problem now for three days. I removed my old copy of Reader which I've had for years and reinstalled it today. I also set up a new account today. I still get the same error as robs92929834    does? This is very aggravating as it locks up my computer!

I have read on other forums that Adobe has been having an ongoing "related" (but different pop-ups) problem concerning this since Feb 2017.

Hello Rob and Joseph,

We apologize for the inconvenience caused.

As per the issue description, you are getting a popup to edit a PDF when you open a file.

I would like to offer my assistance.

As I am not able to reproduce the issue at my end, please help me with the following details:

1. Reader version.

To check the current version, go to Help > About Adobe Acrobat Reader Or follow the link: https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/identify-product-version.html

2. Please share the screenshot of the first screen you get when you open the PDF file i.e. the Popup.

To share the screenshot, go through the link https://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-7161

Response awaited.

Regards,

Anand Sri.

Hi JosephCalvin

Can you please quit and relaunch Reader? That should fix the issue.

Let us know if it doesn't.

Thanks,

-ashu

Ashu,

I can't re-launch the Reader as the Adobe Ad (to purchase Edit PDF) freezes up my computer. My only option to to manually shut down my computer to get rid of the Adobe Ad.

Hi Joseph,

Sorry for the issue.

From screenshot, it looks like you are trying to open the PDF in browser (Safari). Can you please try the following:

- Quit or Force quit browser and Adobe Reader (if running). Make sure they are not running in background.

- Now go to Applications and launch Adobe Acrobat Reader DC app.

- Open any PDF file and wait for 10-15 seconds.

- Open another PDF file.

- If you get the Edit upsell window, close it.

- Quit Adobe Reader.

- Launch Reader once.

-  Now open any PDF in browser.

Please reply if this does not work.

Thanks,

anurag

Hello.

I write from Germany. I have the same problem since today.

But I have the problem using the Windows DLL "AxAcroPDFLib" in Windows Application. I use it since a long time and I worked fine. But since this morning I get the Ad, too. Here is a link to the Window (in German)

http://fs5.directupload.net/images/170810/qaeqzjcd.jpg

This window blocks my whole Windows Application. And it is displayed each time I use the DLL.

Is there a possiblity to tell the DLL not to display this Ad-Window?

Thanks

Architecture: x86_64

Build: 17.12.20093.238000

AGM: 4.30.71

CoolType: 5.14.5

JP2K: 1.2.2.38798

As previously started this is the version just downloaded from the Adobe site. I have been using Adobe for years but their website did NOT recognize my user name and password from the previous version I purchased. I had to begin a brand new account. ???

To address the questions:

1. The Reader "freezes" the computer so the computer has to be completely shut down and restarted.

2. When Reader is relaunched to open PDF it "freezes" computer again.

What I mean by "freezing" is that on my Mac nothing works - including go to the Apple on the upper left side and choosing "Force Quit." I literally have to wheel over to the computer (disabled in a wheelchair) and shut it down manually.

The problem in this thread is "ad that comes up asking me to edit pdf and add." Is this what you call freezing? Or do you have a different issue?

Test Screen Name.

I'm having the same problem as Rob. However, when the ad to purchase Edit PDF comes up it freezes my computer. I use the FREE Reader and have no need of Edit PDF.

1. Stop the marketing Ads -  Purchase Edit PDF

2. Stop freezing up my computer with the Purchase Edit PDF ads.

In other words, get rid of the spamming Edit PDF purchase ads and problem solved.

Had the same issue. This worked for me using Safari on Mac:

1. Start Safari indirectly from a link in an email for example so that a new tab is opened (I noticed the popup seemed to appear if Safari tried to re-open a page showing a pdf document after I had done a force quit).

2. Goto Safari > Preferences... > Security > Plug-in Settings... > Uncheck Adobe Reader on the left

Safari will then switch to the built in pdf viewer instead of the Adobe one which seems to be linked to the popup appearing somehow in my case.

Would still like to know why this happened and how worried I should be if it is some sort of malware?

Obviously turning off Adobe products is not going to be a recommended solution you'll hear from Adobe but at least got me going again until Adobe can let us know what is going on.
