Application unable to Start correctly (0xc0000022)

I am using the latest Adobe Acrobat Reader on Windows 8.1.  I have downloaded and am working on various tax forms.  Every time I open the Reader, or open or save an individual file, I get this Windows Application Error, “The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000022). Click OK to close the application”.

I have re installed the reader several times and have used the “adobe eraser” to clean out old files.  I have tried the “repair” features.  None have helped.  However, despite the error message, the PDF files usually will open or "save" after several clicks but I can't depend on this.  Can you help?

Hello Everyone,

Sorry for the inconvenience caused to you.

You must try the following steps-

Run the repair for the of Microsoft visual C++ 2013 Redistributable(x64&x86) and try again.

Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features\Visual C++ Redistributable 2013 (right click and repair)

If it still doesn't work then, uninstall it completely and reinstall it again through-

Download Visual C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio 2013 from Official Microsoft Download Center

If fixing Microsoft Visual Basic C++ DID NOT WORK for you.

Your problem is permission based.

Right click the Adobe icon and go to Properties > Compatibility > Check off 'Run as Administrator'

It will work after that.

On a side note, network drives are not accessible when in RAA so perform the following steps.

Press Windows Key + R, type regedit

  1. In Registry Editor, locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
  2. Right-click Configuration, click New, and then click DWORD (32-bit) Value.
  3. Name the new registry entry as EnableLinkedConnections.
  4. Double-click the EnableLinkedConnections registry entry.
  5. In the Edit DWORD Value dialog box, type 1 in the Value data field, and then click OK.
  6. Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.

While there is 1 Microsoft Visual C++ app for 2010, 2015 and there are two for 2013.  One is aimed at x386 extensions and the other toward the x64 Bit version of VB.

WINDOWS 10: In Windows 10 there is no "Control Panel" but the same fix applies.

1)  You get to the VB script under Apps and Features under Settings.

2) Scroll down to Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 Redistributable (x64) and select

3) Choose "Modify".

4) A dialog will ask if you want to allow vcredist_x64.exe to make modifications to your computer.  Choose "Yes."

5) In the Dialog Choose "Repair".

Your system will reboot and in my case the problem was solved.

Hello,

After these steps didn't resolve my issue I found something on a somewhat related article where the save box would appear blank.

Unchecking the option to display online storage got rid of the error for me.

"Save As" box is blank

Hope this helps.

The Download Visual C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio 2013 from Official Microsoft Download... actually worked for myself.  I did do an additional step prior to downloading this file to a USB and running it on a users laptop.  I went to 18.011.20038 Optional update, February 23, 2018 — Release Notes for Acrobat DC Products and downloaded the ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/AcrobatDC/1801120038/ file and ran it.  My user is running 64 bit so the 98.5 MB file is the one you want.  After it ran successfully I ran the C++ package and now my Adobe will open files, allow to Save As, and all without the error message popping up.

As a side note, I initially went through the steps in this forum that say to change settings in Adobe but when you do this you could affect other programs from running properly.  My issue I ran into is when I went through Adobe and changed its settings to run in unprotected mode.  This took away the error message but now would not allow a Software called Teamcenter 11 to run effectively.  Teamcenter just completely fell apart and my designers and engineers could not work.  To fix Teamcenter I had to go back into Adobe and reset it's settings to default.  This obviously brought back the Adobe error message but gave me back functionality with Teamcenter (which was a much larger fix needed in order to work).

I hope my example and steps help as many as possible and my condolences to those that still experience this issue.  Hope you are able to find your fix soon.  Best of luck everyone.
