Hello forum -
I am trying to assist a co-worker with an issue he is having with file attachments (pictures) within an encrypted/password protected PDF file. Here is the scenario:
Two of my co-workers are receiving a PDF file from one of our customers. They are getting the file via the same e-mail, but I don't think the email has anything to do with the problem, as this has happened several times. One of them (David) is able to open the PDF, enter a password, and view the attached JPEG pictures in the Attachments pane within Reader. The other co-worker (Andy) opens the PDF, enters his password, but instead of the JPEG files, all he sees is a Winmail.dat file in the Attachments pane. We tried to save that attachment to the desktop and open it in Outlook, but Outlook throws an error. David is running Windows 7 and the current version of Reader, and Andy is running Windows 10 with the same version of Reader. If the train leaves at 5pm, going 80 MPH...
I reinstalled Reader on Andy's machine. I also created an AES-256 password protected PDF in Acrobat Pro with attached JPEG and Excel files, and he was able to open those without issue. Also, they are both using Outlook 2010.
If anyone has any idea what is causing this, we would appreciate the help. Our customer isn't terribly thrilled with our current workaround.
Thank you -
Owen
