Automatic upgrade to adobe acrobat reader DC

Nuevo aquí ,
Mar 01, 2017 Mar 01, 2017

Hi,

maybe you can help with this...?.

Today, 2nd March '17, I got a message when I opened my version of Adobe reader.

It said that in 7 days, my version of adobe reader would be upgraded to the DC version,

ie. the more recent version.

That might be a real problem for me - I need to keep Adobe reader XI, which I've been

using in a very specific way, in tandem with another programme, and depending on

the quirks of Adobe reader XI. (If they automatically upgrade it to another version,

the system I've developed may or may not work, and I'm very much depending on it.)

So how do I stop them doing that? I tried to contact Adobe, but they say the only

support I can get is via the forum, so please help......? thanks a lot, Jo x

I don't know where it is, but there should be an option inside Reader to turn updates OFF

OR, stop the updater from running as it says in Get off the cloud

Essentially, you not only disabled Upgrade to Reader DC, but also automatic security updates for your Reader.

Was it what you intended to do?

Hi Leo,

no, but the need to disable the upgrade was high priority.

Reader XI is needed for only about a month, six weeks at most.

Are there frequent security updates to it? thanks, Jo

If you want to disable Upgrades only, please read how to do it properly here-

Stop Adobe DC

Regular Updates are usually released every 3 month. There are also out of band security patches or hot fixes.

I would advise to disable Upgrades and enable back auto-updates in the application preferences.

I have never seen Reader update to the next version without user approval. The reason being it can break a user workflow. When you next see this message can you take a screenshot so we can determine if this is a message from Reader? Mike

Thanks Michael, I will, and will get back to you.

What it said was words to the effect of:

'In 7 says you will be upgraded to adobe reader DC, do you want to schedule a date for the upgrade?'.

All the best, Jonathan

Hi Mike,

I now have a very worrying situation, the system I developed with Adobe reader XI has stopped working.

That's what I was concerned about when I came on here three weeks ago.

I've put everything into it, and need it to work one more time, as I now need to convert two years work (I've just finished it) into the right format, it's needed this month, within a few days.

I need to know if my version of Adobe reader XI might have been updated anyway, I did get a message saying it would be.

so the first question is : Is there a way to trace updates that have already happened?

The other question is: If I redownload Adobe reader XI, will it be as it was when I first got it, in february this year?

I guess the last question is: Or could the version I have have got corrupted, and need reinstalling?

Thank you very much, J

You can opt-out by selecting appropriate option from the green bar on top of the Reader view or, if you see balloon notification from Updater, click on it, select opt-out option from the combo box in the Updater dialog.

Thanks Leo,

the green bar on top of the reader view? I don't have one there, it must need to be in a different mode?

All the best, Jonathan

How did you "got a message when I opened my version of Adobe reader"?

The green bar might not be there if Updater is not running.

If you feel that you cannot wait for Updater balloon notification to opt-out and not afraid to change Registry, I can provide work around so that Upgrade to DC will not happen automatically (at least until the next Upgrade cycle)

MÁS RECIENTES

I was having the exact same problem on multiple machines in my office. We have a proprietary database that auto-generates client letters through VBA macros. For some odd reason after converting Word documents to PDF in the macro, we are unable to open and display them automatically if Reader DC is installed. Reverting back to Reader XI fixes the issue.

Several times now I have had users report that the macros were not working, only to find that Reader XI had automatically upgraded to DC (no doubt because someone clicked "Yes" when prompted to update).

Solution: I uninstall Reader DC on the subject computer, reinstall Reader XI, open the program and select "Help" menu, check for updates, prompt comes up to upgrade to the latest version (DC) with an check box below it to not receive notifications of this upgrade. Once I checked that I get the normal updates within Reader XI without offering to upgrade to DC.

I hope this helps!

Mike C
